You can often turn on and control a Sansui TV without its remote, but only through whatever physical buttons your exact model has and whatever its manual documents. Sansui does not publish one button layout that applies to every set, so the model number decides what you can do. If the onboard buttons cannot reach the menu or input you need, an exact-model replacement remote or a universal remote whose compatibility list names your model is the practical fallback.
Start with your exact model number
Sansui sells TVs on several platforms, including VIDAA, Google TV, WebOS, Android TV, and basic LED lines, and the manuals for these differ. Find the model number on the rear label or in the original packaging and paperwork. Then open Sansui’s US page titled “Download: Sansui user manuals and support guides” and select the manual that matches that exact number. A manual for a similar-looking model can describe different buttons, menus, and inputs.

What the physical buttons can and cannot do
Most Sansui TVs have some onboard controls, but where they sit and which functions they cover varies by model. Do not assume the buttons are on a particular edge, the underside, or the back of the set. Check the controls section of your model’s manual, then test each control and note what works. Two examples from Sansui’s manuals show the range:

The S43P28F manual documents remote functions for power, input/source, home, volume, channels, the system menu, directional navigation, and OK. That list describes the remote for this model. It does not confirm that the TV’s own buttons duplicate every one of those functions, so check the manual’s controls section for that.

Example: Sansui SLED3215
The SLED3215 manual documents a SOURCE button on the remote that cycles through inputs. This shows that input selection can be done with a remote on at least this model. It does not establish a shared control layout across Sansui models.

If the buttons on the set cannot reach a menu, a volume function, or the input you need, buy a remote that is confirmed for your model. Use this checklist before you buy:

- The seller’s compatibility list names your exact Sansui model number, not just the brand or a series name.
- The remote supports the functions you actually need, such as power, input selection, volume, and menu navigation.
- For a universal remote, you know how to program it for your TV and that the device code it uses is listed for your model. Do not assume a code works without checking it.
- The seller states a return policy in case the remote does not respond to every function.
Sony’s US support pages make the same general point about operating a TV without its supplied remote, but they do not cover Sansui sets, so treat that guidance as background only.
Using a phone or Bluetooth remote
Sansui’s official FAQ discusses pairing a Bluetooth remote and using remote navigation for source and channel functions. The material available does not establish that a phone app can control every Sansui model. Before trying an app, read your model’s manual and confirm that it lists phone-app or Bluetooth control for your TV platform. If it does not, assume you need a physical or compatible remote.

If the TV still will not respond
Sansui’s FAQ recommends these steps when basic troubleshooting does not fix the problem:
- Unplug the TV’s power cable from the wall outlet.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cable and turn the TV on.
- If the problem persists, contact a Sansui service center.
Sansui advises against attempting self-repair, so do not open the set to reach its internal components.
