OpenLogi documents a way to configure the Logitech MX Master 4 without relying on Logitech Options+: it offers local, text-based settings and controls for remapping, DPI, scrolling, SmartShift, and the Haptic Sense Panel. It also supports Linux, where Logitech’s documented advanced customization path is more limited. But OpenLogi is still under active development, and its documentation does not establish full Options+ feature parity. The title’s first-person claim should appear only if the writer has personally used both OpenLogi and the MX Master 4; the details below describe documented capabilities, not hands-on test results.
What OpenLogi can change on the MX Master 4
OpenLogi is a Rust desktop app that describes itself as a native, local-first alternative to Logitech Options+. The project says it does not require a Logitech account or telemetry and keeps settings on the user’s machine. It communicates with compatible Logitech devices using HID++, over Logi Bolt, Unifying or Lightspeed receivers, Bluetooth, or USB. See the OpenLogi documentation and official repository.

For the MX Master 4, OpenLogi documents controls including:
- Button remapping and supported per-button gestures.
- DPI presets and sensitivity controls.
- SmartShift mode and sensitivity.
- Scroll inversion, wheel resolution, and smooth scrolling.
- Thumb-wheel controls and the Haptic Sense Panel.
- An eight-slot Actions Ring, listed on the project roadmap.
That list describes what the project documents; it is not proof that every feature works identically across operating systems or matches Logitech’s implementation. OpenLogi’s roadmap states a v0.8.11 baseline updated October 3, 2026, and marks some features as platform-dependent: OpenLogi feature roadmap.

- Enjoy 2X more powerful connectivity (7) with a USB-C dongle, advanced radio chip, and optimized antenna for faster, stronger, reliable performance—or use Bluetooth for more versatility
- Ergonomic mouse designed for comfort, MX Master 4 keeps you in flow with a natural tilt, intuitive buttons, and a thumb scroll wheel that reduces hand stress for fluid navigation
Why Linux support matters—and where it stops
OpenLogi lists macOS, Linux, and Windows support, making it a possible option for people looking to customize an MX Master 4 on Linux. However, system integration varies. Automatic app-focus overlays are specified for Linux X11/XWayland, and profile behavior depends on the session. The roadmap marks features as platform-dependent rather than promising identical behavior everywhere.
Logitech’s MX Master 4 for Business datasheet lists Bluetooth and Logi Bolt connectivity for Linux as well as Windows 10/11, macOS 12 or later, and ChromeOS. Its Bluetooth compatibility list also includes iPadOS 15 or later and Android 12 or later. Logitech says basic functions work without software on systems other than Windows and macOS, while its examples of advanced customization—including Actions Ring, Smart Actions, and app-specific haptic feedback—require Logi Options+ on Windows or macOS. These details come from the MX Master 4 for Business datasheet; they should not automatically be treated as specifications for every consumer-model configuration.

Switching from Options+ without a receiver conflict
OpenLogi’s documentation says it and Logitech Options+ contend for HID++ access, so only one can control a receiver at a time. On Linux, the same applies to Solaar when it is controlling the device. This is a runtime conflict, not a documented permanent incompatibility.

- Connect the MX Master 4 using a supported connection: receiver, Bluetooth, or USB.
- Open OpenLogi and configure only the controls it documents for your operating system and session.
- If the device is unavailable or settings do not respond, check that the competing HID++ app is closed before troubleshooting the connection.
OpenLogi describes itself as under active development and not yet stable. Features and configuration may change, so it is better treated as an evolving alternative than a guaranteed replacement for every Options+ workflow.

What Logitech’s published numbers do—and do not—tell you
Logitech’s May 2026 MX Master 4 for Business datasheet lists the following manufacturer specifications. They are not independent measurements, and the battery estimate varies with user and computing conditions.
| Specification | Logitech’s stated value for MX Master 4 for Business |
|---|---|
| Sensor resolution | 200–8,000 DPI in 50-DPI increments |
| Battery life | Up to 70 days on a full charge; actual life varies with user and computing conditions |
| Paired devices | Up to three through Easy-Switch |
| Weight | 150 g |
| Click noise | Logitech claims a 90% reduction versus the MX Master 3 |
The datasheet also says existing users can enable a specific Windows 11 haptic capability through a firmware update in Logi Options+, and that new units shipping in Fall 2026 will support that capability out of the box. This is a statement about that haptic feature, not a general promise that every firmware update or customization works the same way.

When OpenLogi is a good fit
OpenLogi is worth considering if local configuration, text-based settings, or Linux support are priorities and you are comfortable with software that is still developing. If your setup depends on Logitech’s Options+-specific Smart Actions or app-specific customizations, check whether OpenLogi’s documented controls cover your exact workflow before switching. The available documentation does not establish full feature parity or comparative performance.
