OpenAI Dots already offer a way to delegate work through conversation, but one developer’s early experience surfaced a practical question: can the agent take a task all the way from computer work to a usable result, while keeping the developer in control? Tatted Dev’s wish list focuses on clearer computer access, steerable coding sessions, phone-ready prototypes, and dependable publishing handoffs—not a claim that every Dot or setup behaves the same way.
What the developer liked—and what still felt unfinished
Tatted Dev describes using text and voice conversations to organize ideas, work in the cloud, and access tasks on mobile. The gaps emerged when work crossed between the agent, a development environment, a phone, and a publishing workflow. The author’s central request is for a Dot to explain what it can do, what permission it needs, and how to get a task to a useful finish without making the user discover every limitation mid-project.

OpenAI announced Dots on September 29, 2026, describing them as agents with their own cloud computers and connections to apps through ChatGPT, Slack, or Teams. OpenAI’s announcement says its plugin ecosystem can connect to over 4,000 apps; that is the company’s launch claim, not a guarantee that any particular integration or workflow will work for every user. OpenAI’s Dots announcement also describes the agents as “Powered by GPT‑6 Astra, they have their own cloud computer, learn from feedback over time, and can work towards your goals 24/7.”
Make computer control and permissions clear
When a task involves a desktop application, a developer needs to know what the Dot can actually see and do. As Tatted Dev puts it: “Can this session run commands? Can it see the application? Can it click and type?” A useful explanation would distinguish command execution from visual access and interaction, then state what access the user must enable before the agent can proceed.

The author describes an attempt involving Unity on Windows and explicitly limits the claim: “I’m describing the setup we encountered, rather than claiming this can never work on Windows.” That experience should be read as a report about one setup, not as a general finding that Dots cannot work with Windows applications.
OpenAI’s Help Center says a Dot has its own cloud computer, while local computer access is optional and turned off by default. If enabled, local access can let a Dot create Work or Codex tasks, use local skills, and use the local browser when its cloud browser is blocked. Users can also open a Dot’s computer from its profile to view and interact with it. These are documented options; they do not establish that every desktop app is visible or controllable in every configuration. See OpenAI’s Dots guidance for the current description of the feature and access controls.

Keep a coding session steerable after it starts
In the author’s account, a Dot could continue with a Codex session, while a Claude session could be launched with an initial prompt but did not have a reliable follow-up path in that workflow. The wish is not simply to start coding; it is to select an agent, start a task, and keep directing that same session through conversation or voice as the work develops.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →That distinction matters: launching a task is not the same as continuing to steer it. OpenAI documents that users can reply in a Dot conversation to add information or change a request, and that a Dot can create cloud tasks in Codex environments prepared in Codex. The documentation does not confirm a general handoff to, or ongoing control of, a Claude session. Tatted Dev’s account is one workflow, not a compatibility guarantee.

Codex Cloud is a separate managed-computer workflow. OpenAI says tasks run on OpenAI-managed computers; after an environment is prepared, users can start and continue tasks from desktop, web, or mobile, including while their own computer is asleep. That differs from remotely accessing a task running on the user’s own computer. Details are in OpenAI’s Codex Cloud documentation.
Deliver prototypes in a form that works on a phone
For a PocketQuests prototype, the author wanted a live, interactive link that could be opened on a phone. A ZIP file did not meet that need; a private Site eventually did in this instance. The point is the deliverable, not the file format in isolation: if the next step is testing an interactive prototype on a phone, the result should be reachable and usable there.

A more complete handoff would identify the intended device and access level early, then clarify whether the result is a live preview, a private site, or a downloadable project that needs to be opened elsewhere. The author’s example establishes what happened in that attempt; it does not show that every Dot can publish a private site or that a ZIP is never useful.

Check the whole publishing route before asking the user to troubleshoot
The author’s publishing attempt involved separate obstacles: repository access and transferring files. The desired improvement is for the Dot to map the complete route before work begins, identify which account or permission is needed, and check that each handoff is possible before asking the user to solve a problem at the end.

That means treating publishing as a sequence, not as an assumed final button: where the draft lives, whether the agent can access the repository, how files move to the publishing destination, and what the user must approve. The account supports the need for earlier constraint-checking; it does not establish a universal publishing workflow or a guaranteed integration for a particular repository or platform.
What the author wants to see next
Tatted Dev asks for a Dot-specific demonstration of a longer development session: starting work, giving follow-up instructions, moving between phone and computer, and troubleshooting a preview. The author also asks whether users will get more model choice and whether multiple assistants might coordinate. Those are requests and open questions, not capabilities confirmed by the cited OpenAI materials.
For now, the practical distinction is between what OpenAI documents and what the author wants: optional local computer access and prepared Codex Cloud workflows are documented; general cross-provider session control, multi-assistant coordination, and the specific end-to-end demonstrations requested are not established by those sources. OpenAI’s Help Center describes a gradual rollout, with availability varying by plan and region, and says access may take several days to reach an eligible account. Check the Help Center article for current eligibility and rollout terms.
