Big enterprise customers are putting pressure on both the price and the terms of AI contracts. The Information reported that Anthropic has ended discounts for some customers after they reached contracted usage caps, while OpenAI’s discount terms were more flexible. That account is not a universal policy statement: caps, overage charges and discounts depend on individual agreements.
Why enterprise AI pricing is under pressure
Large customers can negotiate discounts, but a lower rate may come with conditions tied to a spending commitment or usage cap. The Information’s September 28, 2026 report said Anthropic ended discounts for some customers after they reached their contracted caps and characterized OpenAI’s terms as more flexible. The report’s accessible page is paywalled, and it does not establish that either company applies the same terms to every enterprise customer. The Information’s report

This makes the contract’s over-cap rules as important as its headline discount. A customer needs to know whether the discount continues after the cap, what rates apply to excess use, and whether the agreement requires a new commitment or renewal to keep discounted pricing. Public reporting does not disclose the negotiated rates or full terms for any particular customer.

Axios reported two separate company claims on September 22, 2026. OpenAI said GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna lower costs for top business customers by 50% compared with previous iterations of those same models. Anthropic said Opus 5.5 costs around 40% less to run than Opus 5 while maintaining top intelligence. The comparisons use different model baselines and describe company claims, not independently verified customer savings. Axios on OpenAI’s claim Axios on Anthropic’s claim

Model-level cost reductions can coexist with higher total spending if a customer uses more tokens, exceeds a discounted cap, or shifts to a different model mix. Nor do these claims reveal either vendor’s margins or prove that a negotiated enterprise price fell by the same percentage.
How OpenAI’s published Enterprise token pricing works
OpenAI’s official rate card for eligible token-based Enterprise agreements calculates charges by model and by token category: input, cached input, and output. The applicable rates, discounts and other commercial terms are set by the customer’s agreement, so the public rate card is not a universal price list for every ChatGPT business account. - EVOLUTION AMD RYZEN AI MAX+ 395 MINI PC - GMKtec EVO-X2 is the next evolution in AI mini PC Ryzen Strix Halo series. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) the core-count is effectively doubled, to 32 threads. Ryzen AI Max+ 395 has 64 MB of L3 cache and can boost up to 5.1 GHz, depending on the workload. The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 is currently rated as the "most powerful x86 APU" on the market for AI computing.
- AI NPU with XDNA 2 ARCHITECTURE - Powered by 16 “Zen 5” CPU cores, 50+ peak AI TOPS XDNA 2 NPU and a truly massive integrated GPU driven by 40 AMD RDNA 3.5 CUs, the Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 is a transformative upgrade and delivers a significant performance boost over the competition. The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 excels in consumer AI workloads like the llama.cpp-powered application: LM Studio. Shaping up to be the must-have app for client LLM workloads, LM Studio allows users to locally run the latest language model without any technical knowledge required and unleash their creativity and productivity.
- AMD RADEON 8090S iGPU GAMING PC - The AMD Radeon RX 8060S offers all 40 CUs with up to 2.9 GHz graphics clock and uses the new RDNA 3.5 architecture. The powerful iGPU is positioned between an RTX 4060 and 4070 laptop GPU and therefore enables gaming in FHD at maximum details in most demanding games. The 8060S can also utilize the full 64GB pool, which is perfect for running LLMs such as Deepseek 32B, which runs comfortably on this machine.
- EIGHT CHANNEL LPDDR5X - LPDDR5X is a new ground breaking memory small form factor installed on-board. With blazing speeds up to to 8000MT/s, it runs 1.5x faster than the DDR5 SODIMMs; 90% better performance over DDR5 SODIMMs in video conferencing and photo editing; 30% better performance in productivity apps; 4% better performance in digital content workloads.
- QUAD SCREEN 8K DISPLAY SUPPORT - EVO-X2 AI Mini PC support 4-screen 4K/8K output via HDMI 2.1 (8K@60Hz), DisplayPort 1.4 (4K@60Hz), and dual USB 4 40Gbps Transfer speed (supporting PD3.0/DP1.4/DATA). Ideal for gaming, video editing, and multitasking, it provides expansive and crisp multi-display support.
That distinction matters when estimating spend. Two workloads using the same model can have different costs if their proportions of input, cached-input and output tokens differ. A buyer should evaluate likely token mix alongside the model rate and negotiated terms, rather than relying on a single per-model figure.

- The committed spend, contract period and conditions for receiving each discount.
- How the usage cap is measured, including which models and token categories count toward it.
- What happens at the cap: whether service is throttled, billed at an overage rate, or handled through another contract term.
- Whether the discount continues for usage above the cap, and the rates that apply if it does not.
- Expected input, cached-input and output token mix by model, where token-based pricing applies.
- Renewal terms and any provisions governing changes to rates or commercial terms.
These questions help expose the difference between a low rate within a commitment and the effective cost of the full workload. The public sources establish the importance of caps, token categories and contract-specific discounts, but do not provide an apples-to-apples negotiated price comparison.
OpenAI’s published terms on price changes and usage limits
OpenAI’s Services Agreement says pricing-page changes take effect 14 days after posting. The agreement also prohibits customers from violating or circumventing usage limits, including configuring the services to avoid those limits. Those are terms in OpenAI’s agreement, not evidence of Anthropic’s contract language. OpenAI Services Agreement
