Choose how a Lock Screen note behaves
| Setting | What happens | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Always Create New Note | A Lock Screen Notes session starts a new note. | You want each quick note to begin separately. |
| Resume Last Note | A Lock Screen Notes session continues the previous note. | You want to keep adding to the note you were using. |
| Off | Notes cannot be accessed from the Lock Screen. | You prefer not to have Notes available there. |
Use Quick Note as a separate shortcut
If you only need a quick way to jot something down, Apple also lets you add the Quick Note button to Control Center and tap it from an app or screen. Quick Notes can be viewed in the Notes app. This is a separate feature from allowing Notes access on the Lock Screen; see Apple’s Quick Notes guide.
Consider Lock Screen privacy
Apple’s general Lock Screen guidance explains that disabling access to a feature can keep someone holding a locked iPhone from viewing personal information exposed through that feature, but it also removes the owner’s shortcut. The guide does not specify exactly what information either Notes option exposes, so choose based on your privacy needs rather than assuming one option reveals a particular set of note contents. Lock Screen feature permissions are managed under Settings > Face ID & Passcode or Settings > Touch ID & Passcode, in Allow Access When Locked. Apple’s Lock Screen access guide explains those controls.
