Then check power, reseat the receiver or re-pair Bluetooth, and test the mouse on another computer to help distinguish a mouse or receiver fault from a Windows problem.
First identify how your ONN mouse connects
Check the label on the mouse, its underside switch, and the model’s quick-start guide. Some ONN mice use a USB nano receiver; others use Bluetooth, and some support both. A mouse supplied with a receiver is not necessarily Bluetooth-capable.

For example, ONN model 100162482 has a selector for a USB receiver and two Bluetooth channels, and its receiver is stored in the battery compartment. Those details apply to that model, not every ONN mouse. See the 100162482 user guide. Walmart’s general mouse setup guidance also distinguishes receiver-based and Bluetooth setup.
If you use the USB receiver
Check the basic connection
- Turn the mouse on. Check that its battery is present and installed in the direction shown inside the compartment.
- Remove and reinsert the USB receiver. Try another working USB port, and connect directly to the PC rather than through a hub while troubleshooting.
- If Windows shows no response, test the receiver in another port and, if possible, another computer. Microsoft recommends these checks for an unresponsive USB mouse; see Microsoft’s mouse and keyboard troubleshooting guidance.
Reconnect only with the sequence for your model
For ONN 100162482, select the USB receiver channel, plug in the receiver, then hold the Connect button on the mouse’s underside for 10 seconds with the mouse near the receiver. The guide also identifies a malfunctioning USB port as a possible cause. Check your own model’s instructions before using this sequence; the 10-second instruction is not a universal ONN reset procedure.

If the receiver is missing or damaged, the available guidance does not establish that a generic USB dongle will work. Seek model-specific support rather than assuming any receiver is compatible.
If you use Bluetooth
Enable Bluetooth and put the mouse in pairing mode
Make sure the PC supports Bluetooth, Bluetooth is on, and the mouse is set to its Bluetooth channel and pairing mode. Microsoft’s general requirement is that the Bluetooth device be in pairing mode and within range of the PC.

- Windows 11: Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
- Windows 10: Open Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
Follow the mouse’s own guide to enter pairing mode, then select it when it appears in Windows device discovery. On model 100162482, holding Connect enters pairing mode and a blinking LED indicates that it is ready to pair. Do not assume that button behavior applies to another model.

If Windows sees the mouse but it will not connect
- Move the mouse closer to the PC and check its battery.
- In Windows Bluetooth settings, remove the mouse from the device list, then add it again.
- Turn Bluetooth off, wait 10 seconds, turn it back on, and retry. If needed, restart the PC or check Windows Update.

If the mouse is sluggish or intermittent
Try moving a nearby USB device or receiver away from the PC’s Bluetooth radio path. Microsoft notes that an unshielded USB device connected to a USB 3.0 port can interfere with Bluetooth. This is a possible cause of poor performance, not proof that interference is the problem.
Check power and battery before assuming Windows is at fault
Confirm the mouse is switched on and install a fresh battery of the type specified for your model, observing the polarity markings. The ONN 100162482 guide specifies one AA battery and says a blinking LED can indicate low battery; other models may differ. Do not buy or install a battery based on that example alone.

If the mouse has no light or response, reseat its battery and receiver, try another USB port, and bypass any hub. Microsoft also recommends testing an unresponsive mouse on another PC as an isolation step.
Use cross-testing to locate the likely fault
Try the ONN mouse on another computer, then try a known-working mouse on the original PC. Interpret the results as clues rather than a definitive component diagnosis:

- If the ONN mouse works on another computer, investigate the original PC’s port, Bluetooth settings, or Windows connection.
- If the ONN mouse fails on another computer but a different mouse works on the original PC, a fault in the ONN mouse or its receiver becomes more plausible.
- If neither mouse works on the original PC, focus first on the PC’s USB port, Bluetooth capability, or Windows configuration.
A Microsoft Learn Q&A response to one ONN owner likewise suggests cross-PC testing and contacting Walmart if the issue persists, but that single report does not establish a specific failed part: ONN mouse connection problem.
What the Windows version does—and does not—tell you
The guide for ONN 100162482 lists Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11 compatibility. Confirm your own model’s documentation rather than extending that compatibility list to every ONN mouse. Windows 11 and Windows 10 use different Bluetooth Settings paths, shown above.
Microsoft says support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, 2025. Microsoft no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10 after that date.
