For most people, OnePlus High performance mode is worth trying only if a demanding game or app feels constrained and you can notice a real improvement. OnePlus says the setting increases power consumption, but its manuals do not quantify the speed benefit, battery cost, or temperature effect. There is no documented reason to leave it on all the time if your phone already feels responsive or battery life matters more.
What High performance mode does—and what OnePlus does not promise
OnePlus describes the setting as making the system operate in a high-performance mode. Its Android 12 system manual and the OnePlus 10 Pro OxygenOS 12 manual both warn that it increases extra power consumption.

Those manuals do not explain the underlying CPU or GPU policy, promise a particular frame rate, or report how much faster the phone becomes. They also give no percentage or screen-time estimate for the extra power use. Claims that this toggle forces maximum processor clocks, disables thermal limits, guarantees smoother gaming, or necessarily makes a phone heat up are not established by these documents.

It might help with a demanding game on a particular phone, but the available OnePlus documentation does not demonstrate a gaming improvement from this toggle. Do not assume a higher frame rate or more stable gameplay without comparing it on your own device.

OnePlus describes other gaming and system-performance technologies separately. Its OxygenOS 13 page discusses HyperBoost gaming modes; its 2023 OxygenOS 14 announcement describes CPU Vitalization; and its 2025 gaming-technology announcement covers OP Gaming Core and other technologies for specified devices. Those are separate claims about other features, not evidence that the general High performance mode toggle improves a given game.

In OnePlus’s Android 12 documentation, the path is Settings > Battery > Advanced settings > High performance mode. The OnePlus 10 Pro manual documents the option for that model on OxygenOS 12. Menu names and availability can differ by phone and software version, so treat this as a documented example rather than a universal path.
- Open Settings and look under Battery > Advanced settings for High performance mode.
- If you do not see it, search Settings for “High performance mode” or check the manual for your exact phone and software version.
- Turn it on only when you want to compare it with the normal setting, then return to the same task and conditions with the mode off.
How to decide on your phone
Use a task you care about, such as a specific game or demanding app, and compare the two settings under similar conditions. Look for a change you can actually observe rather than assuming the mode is working because the label sounds faster.

- Responsiveness or frame stability: Does the task feel or look meaningfully better with the setting on?
- Battery use: Compare use over the same period. OnePlus identifies increased power consumption as the tradeoff, but does not publish a figure for this toggle.
- Comfort: Notice device warmth during the task, without assuming any change was caused by the setting alone.
- Practical value: Keep it enabled only if the improvement matters enough to you to accept the additional power use.
This is a personal comparison, not a controlled benchmark. The official manuals do not provide measured on-versus-off results for performance, battery use, or temperature.
