The OnePlus 13R has the stronger listed performance and display specifications, a larger battery, and a dedicated 2× telephoto camera. The Samsung Galaxy A56 5G costs less at its US launch starting price and offers IP67 resistance plus a clearly stated six-year security-update commitment. At launch, the prices differed by $99.01, but the configurations were not matched: the OnePlus price was for 256GB, while Samsung’s was its starting price. Those 2025 figures do not establish what either phone costs now.
How much more did the OnePlus 13R cost at launch?
In the United States, OnePlus announced the 13R at $599 for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Samsung announced the Galaxy A56 5G at a starting price of $499.99, with 128GB and 256GB configurations offered. The difference between those announced prices is $99.01, but it compares the 13R’s 256GB model with the A56’s starting price, not two confirmed matching-storage prices. OnePlus announced its price on January 7, 2025; Samsung’s US announcement and update gave the $499.99 starting price and reported US availability beginning July 18, 2025. These are launch-era prices, not verified October 2026 prices. Check current listings, promotions, stock, and the price of the same storage capacity before buying. Samsung specifies a 120Hz Super AMOLED display but does not give an equivalent adaptive range in the cited announcement.

OnePlus also identifies the 13R’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and 12GB of LPDDR5X memory. Samsung’s US announcement gives 8GB of RAM but does not identify the A56’s US chipset. That is enough to compare the listed specifications, but not to establish a regional processor matchup or real-world speed advantage. Check the exact regional model before drawing conclusions from chipset comparisons found for other markets.
Which has the better battery and charging?
The listed capacities favor the 13R: OnePlus specifies 6,000mAh, compared with Samsung’s 5,000mAh typical battery. A larger rated capacity does not by itself establish longer battery life; screen settings, signal strength, software, and workload also affect endurance, and no comparable battery test is established here.
For the US 13R, OnePlus lists 55W SUPERVOOC charging. The company notes that rates up to 80W require specified OnePlus adapters; do not assume that higher rate applies with every charger or bundle. Samsung lists 45W charging for the A56. These wattage figures describe supported charging specifications, not measured time to recharge.

How do the camera systems differ?
The key difference is the extra rear-camera role. The 13R pairs a 50MP main camera with a 50MP telephoto camera offering 2× optical zoom and an 8MP ultra-wide. The A56 has a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 5MP macro camera. Samsung lists a higher-resolution ultra-wide; OnePlus includes a dedicated telephoto camera instead of a macro unit. Their front cameras are listed at 16MP and 12MP, respectively.
Megapixel counts and lens types describe hardware, not the final quality of photos or video. Without comparable camera testing, they do not prove that one phone takes better pictures overall.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which phone has stronger durability and software-support documentation?
Samsung explicitly lists IP67 water and dust resistance for the A56. The cited OnePlus US specification does not establish a comparable rating, so this comparison cannot confirm equivalent protection for the 13R.

Samsung states that the A56 receives up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates. The cited OnePlus materials identify Android 15-based OxygenOS 15 but do not provide a comparable support-duration commitment. That means Samsung has the clearer documented long-term support promise in the material compared here; it does not establish how long the 13R will receive updates beyond what is documented in those sources.
Which phone is better value?
Choose based on the features and current prices that matter to you, not just the launch-price gap. On paper, the 13R offers a higher-resolution adaptive display, a named Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, more listed RAM, a larger battery, and a 2× optical telephoto camera. The A56’s documented strengths include IP67 resistance, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a defined software-support commitment. Neither specification sheet establishes overall superiority in everyday use.
Quick Recap
- Favor the 13R if its listed display, chipset, memory, battery capacity, or telephoto camera fits your priorities—and its current price is acceptable.
- Favor the A56 if IP67 resistance, Samsung’s stated update policy, or a lower current price for the storage configuration you want matters more.
- Before ordering, compare like-for-like storage, confirm the exact country and model number, and check carrier compatibility, included charging equipment, and the seller’s current price.
