The OnePlus 12 is the better fit if you want a sharper display, an ultrawide camera and longer-reach periscope telephoto hardware, or wireless charging. The newer OnePlus 13R offers a larger battery and may cost less, but its price depends on country, storage tier and current stock. Neither is an automatic winner: compare live local prices and decide which features matter most.

Display: the OnePlus 12 has more pixels

The OnePlus 12’s 6.82-inch panel has a listed resolution of 1440 × 3168, compared with 1264 × 2780 on the 13R’s 6.78-inch display. Both are listed at 120Hz, while OnePlus describes the 13R screen as 1.5K. The 12 is the stronger specification choice if high resolution is a priority; the 13R still has a high-refresh-rate display and is only slightly smaller by diagonal measurement.

Cameras: choose by focal length, not megapixel totals alone

OnePlus 12

OnePlus specifies a 64MP 3x periscope telephoto camera. The comparison listing also gives the 12 a 48MP ultrawide and 50MP main camera. The longer optical telephoto reach and higher-resolution ultrawide make the 12’s camera hardware more versatile on paper, particularly for distant subjects and wide scenes.

OnePlus 13R

The 13R launch release lists a 50MP main camera, 50MP 2x telephoto and 8MP ultrawide. It has dedicated telephoto hardware, but its listed optical reach is shorter than the 12’s 3x periscope, and the ultrawide resolution is lower. These specifications describe the hardware, not a controlled comparison of image quality, color or low-light performance.

Battery and charging: capacity is not the same as runtime

The OnePlus 13R has a 6,000mAh typical-capacity battery; its US product page additionally gives 5,860mAh rated capacity. The OnePlus 12 has a 5,400mAh battery and supports 50W wireless charging according to OnePlus. A larger stated capacity can be an advantage, but it does not by itself prove longer real-world battery life; usage, settings and battery condition affect runtime.

Wired charging ratings differ by market. OnePlus’s global launch material lists 80W for the 13R and 100W for the 12, while the launch specifications give North American ratings of 55W for the 13R and 80W for the 12. OnePlus’s US 13R product page says 55W and notes that up to 80W is possible with particular OnePlus adapters. Check the exact phone variant and compatible adapter in your region before relying on a charging figure. The cited OnePlus specifications do not list wireless charging for the 13R.

Performance, software and durability

OnePlus names the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the 13R, and 91mobiles lists the same chipset for the OnePlus 12. The shared chipset name does not establish that the phones perform identically in every workload, nor does it support a claim that one is faster without comparable controlled testing.

OnePlus announced the 13R on January 7, 2025, with OxygenOS 15 and an IP65 rating at launch. IP65 is not a promise that the phone is waterproof: OnePlus describes protection against low-pressure water jets, excludes saltwater and other liquids, and says immersion damage is not covered by warranty. The cited OnePlus 12 launch material does not establish a directly comparable IP rating or a current software-support end date, so its remaining support should not be inferred from launch timing alone.

Which phone should you choose?

  • Choose the OnePlus 12 if its local price is competitive and you value the higher-resolution display, 48MP ultrawide, 3x periscope telephoto or 50W wireless charging.
  • Choose the OnePlus 13R if the live price is lower for the storage tier you want, you prefer the larger stated battery capacity, or its newer launch software and listed IP65 rating better suit your needs.
  • Check before either purchase: current price and stock in your country, equivalent storage tier, regional charging rate, network-band compatibility and warranty coverage for the exact variant.
