One UI 9 reportedly lets Galaxy tablet users move the taskbar

A Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra user reports a new One UI 9 taskbar position setting. Here’s how it reportedly works with gestures, button navigation and DeX.

A Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra owner reports that One UI 9 adds a setting to move the tablet taskbar to the left, center, or right. The report describes a more desktop-like layout, but Samsung’s cited rollout and support materials do not confirm the new control. Availability beyond the reported device is not established.

What the One UI 9 taskbar position setting reportedly does

In a Reddit post dated October 12, 2026, a user who disclosed using a Samsung-loaned Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra said the taskbar can be centered or aligned to either side of the screen in the standard tablet interface. The observation is specific to that report; it is not a confirmed specification for every Galaxy tablet or region. Read the October 12 report.

The practical change is layout: users who prefer a launcher along one edge can reportedly choose a horizontal position other than the centered arrangement. The report does not establish a performance or productivity benefit, nor does it say that the setting changes which apps appear in the taskbar.

Which positions are reported for each navigation setup?

The Reddit author says the available positions depend on the navigation method and, with three-button navigation, the side holding the buttons:

Three-button navigation, buttons on the right Center or left
Three-button navigation, buttons on the left Center or right

These are observations from one user report, not a Samsung-published compatibility table. Samsung’s support material documents that navigation-button placement is configurable on Galaxy Tabs, but does not confirm this new taskbar selector. Samsung Canada’s navigation-bar guide covers the navigation controls.

Does moving the taskbar affect DeX?

No, according to the same report: changing the position affects the standard tablet interface, while the taskbar in DeX mode remains centered. Treat this as a reported behavior rather than a universally verified DeX specification. The post describes the DeX exception.

How to find the existing taskbar controls

Samsung’s support page documents standard taskbar controls at Settings > Display > Taskbar. It explains how to enable or disable the taskbar and says Galaxy tablets support up to four app slots. You can add apps from the favorites bar and drag an app from the taskbar into Multi window. Samsung’s page does not document a left-or-right position selector, so these steps identify the established taskbar settings, not a verified path to the reported One UI 9 option. Samsung U.S. Support: Use the Taskbar on your Galaxy tablet or Z Fold model phone.

Samsung describes the feature as delivering a “genuine PC-like experience, right on your device.” That is Samsung U.S. Support’s description of the taskbar generally, not a statement about the newly reported position setting.

If the position choice is not visible, the available evidence does not establish that every tablet running One UI 9 has it, or specify another setting path. Samsung’s U.S. announcement said One UI 9 expansion began September 16, 2026, first naming the Galaxy S26 Ultra, S26+, and S26 after the software’s debut on Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8. It did not set out a tablet rollout schedule or mention taskbar positioning. Samsung Electronics America’s rollout announcement therefore provides release context, not confirmation of tablet availability.

Do not confuse position with auto-hide

One UI 7 update notes for the SM-X306B document an existing behavior that hides the taskbar automatically while an app is open and restores it after a slow swipe up from the bottom edge. That is an auto-hide control, not the left-center-right position option reported for One UI 9. Samsung Mobile’s One UI 7 update notes for SM-X306B.
