A community report says Samsung’s One UI 9 restores the option to hide the taskbar in DeX on tablets, including in standalone DeX and when connected to an external display. The reported device was a Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra. Samsung has not officially confirmed this consumer setting, so treat it as a device-specific observation—not a guaranteed fix for every Galaxy tablet or DeX setup.
What the One UI 9 report says
The report describes the taskbar-hide option returning on a Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra after the tablet setting had been missing since One UI 7 and remained absent through the transition to One UI 8. It says the option works in both standalone DeX and DeX connected to an external display. The report also says the scope differs between tablets and phones; it does not establish that the same toggle is available on Galaxy phones.

The report discloses that the Tab S12 Ultra was loaned by Samsung. The observation is about a software setting, not a hardware repair or an accessory workaround. No exact menu path is established, so the setting should be checked on the device rather than assumed to appear at a particular location.

That is not established. Samsung’s September 16, 2026 One UI 9 rollout announcement said the update would begin expanding to Galaxy S26 models after debuting on the Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8, with a gradual rollout expected to other Galaxy devices. That announcement does not confirm the taskbar-hide setting or establish availability on every tablet, region, or software build.

Samsung’s DeX FAQ documents changes introduced in One UI 8, including the ability to keep duplicate apps in the taskbar, separate settings for external displays, removal of app folders from the DeX Apps menu, and changes to window-management behavior. Those details provide context for the altered DeX experience, but they do not confirm that One UI 9 restored the consumer taskbar-hide control.
What to check on your Galaxy device
- Confirm your model and software build. Check the device’s software information and whether One UI 9 has been installed. Samsung’s rollout is gradual and device-specific; a feature reported on a Tab S12 Ultra should not be presumed available on another model or build.
- Open DeX in the setup you use. The report covers standalone tablet DeX and DeX connected to an external display. If you use both, check each mode separately.
- Look for a taskbar visibility control in the DeX settings available on your device. The sources do not establish a verified, universal menu route. Labels and availability may vary by model, build, and region.
- If the option is absent, do not infer that a hardware accessory will restore it. The reported change is a software setting, and the available information does not establish a workaround or a supported compatibility matrix. Check Samsung’s support information for your specific model and software version.
Taskbar hiding is different from Knox taskbar sizing
Samsung separately documents an enterprise control for managed devices. In its Knox Service Plugin 3.14 release notes, updated August 31, 2026, Samsung says administrators can set the DeX taskbar size to Basic, Large, or Extra Large. This managed-device sizing feature changes taskbar size; it is not the consumer hide/show toggle described in the One UI 9 report.
