Logitech’s receiver system can cut down on USB dongles, but only when your keyboard or mouse supports the same receiver family. A Unifying receiver and a Logi Bolt receiver are not interchangeable: each works with compatible devices in its own family. Check the logo on every peripheral before trying to consolidate.
Why you can still have several Logitech dongles
“Logitech wireless” does not mean one universal connection standard. Unifying and Logi Bolt are separate receiver families, with their own compatible devices. A receiver that came with one Logitech mouse may not pair with another Logitech keyboard, even if both are wireless.

That is why dongles can accumulate when you mix peripherals from different generations or connection families. Some devices also offer Bluetooth Low Energy as an alternative, but that depends on the specific device and the computer it is connecting to. Logitech’s product and compatibility guidance treats Unifying and Bolt separately; it does not establish that every Logitech wireless product belongs to one of those two families.
What one receiver can actually connect
| Connection family | Supported capacity | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Logitech Unifying | Up to six compatible wireless keyboards and mice on one receiver, according to Logitech’s Unifying product information, accessed in 2026. | The device must support Unifying; look for the Unifying logo. |
| Logi Bolt | Up to six compatible devices can be paired to one receiver, with up to three active connections at a time, according to Logitech’s Bolt white paper, published approximately in 2022. | The device must support Bolt; look for the Bolt logo. Some Bolt devices also support Bluetooth Low Energy. |
“Up to six” describes compatible devices that can be paired with a receiver; it does not mean that six devices are necessarily active at once. Logitech’s Bolt white paper distinguishes its six-device pairing capacity from the limit of three active connections.

- TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT: This is not a standard plug-and-play receiver. It strictly requires -downloading the official Logitech Unifying Software to sync and pair with your compatible keyboard or mouse
How to tell which receiver your devices need
- Inspect each mouse or keyboard. Check the underside and the original packaging for the Unifying or Logi Bolt mark. Logitech’s setup guidance identifies those logos as the practical compatibility check.
- Group devices by family. Keep Unifying-marked devices together and Bolt-marked devices together. Do not assume that a receiver will pair a device just because both carry the Logitech name.
- Check the exact model if the mark is missing or unclear. Use Logitech’s model-specific support information rather than guessing; compatibility can vary across individual products and generations.
Pair compatible devices with the matching receiver
For Unifying devices
Use a Unifying receiver and Logitech’s supported pairing flow through Logi Options+. Follow the current instructions for your device and operating system, since software and host support can differ by model.
For Logi Bolt devices
Use a Logi Bolt receiver, or pair directly over Bluetooth Low Energy if that specific device supports it and your computer supports the connection. A Bolt receiver is not a replacement for a Unifying receiver.

Logitech lists a Unifying USB Receiver (part 910-005235) for compatible devices, including as a replacement for a lost receiver. It is useful only if the device supports Unifying. Logitech also lists a separate Logi Bolt USB Receiver for Bolt-compatible devices.
When an adapter or hub helps—and when it does not
A receiver’s USB connector may not fit the computer’s available port. A suitable adapter or USB hub can solve that physical connection problem. It cannot make a Unifying device pair with a Bolt receiver, or bridge any other protocol mismatch. Check compatibility first, then address the connector if needed.

Range is not the same as compatibility
Logitech states a receiver range of up to 33 feet (10 meters) on its Unifying and Logi Bolt product or technology information, accessed in 2026. That is a stated range, not a guarantee for every setup; actual performance can vary with the environment. Range does not determine whether a device can pair with a receiver—the device’s supported connection family does.
