Vancouver scored four straight goals to cut the deficit to 8-6 before Leon Draisaitl’s power-play goal stopped the rally, according to the Associated Press report republished by theScore.
How Edmonton’s lead became a close finish
Edmonton struck five times before Vancouver scored. The Oilers later stretched their advantage to 8-2, including two short-handed breakaway goals during a Canucks power play: Connor McDavid and Kasperi Kapanen scored 34 seconds apart.
Vancouver answered with four consecutive goals. Elias Pettersson’s power-play goal 7:37 into the third period made it 8-6, bringing the Canucks within two. Draisaitl scored on an Edmonton power play less than two minutes later, restoring a three-goal cushion. Vancouver added another goal, but could not complete the comeback.
Who led the scoring?
McDavid led Edmonton with five points, scoring once and assisting on four goals. Draisaitl finished with two goals and an assist. Evan Bouchard had a goal and two assists in this game; the AP also reported that Bouchard opened the season with eight points—four goals and four assists—across his first two games, including three goals and two assists in Tuesday’s 6-5 loss to Vancouver.
