The OBSBOT Tail 2’s browser-accessible Web UI provides network-based viewing, camera control and settings; it is not documented as an HTTP video transport. USB-C is a separate connection, and the available official information does not establish full USB video compatibility. Choose the interface by the workflow you need, and secure each network path separately.
What the Tail 2 Web UI does
OBSBOT documents a Web UI that you can reach in a browser over the same network as the camera, using its device name or IP address. It provides a live view and controls for tracking, pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ), presets and device settings. Its network panel includes NDI source naming, automatic or manual IP configuration, and H.264 encoding options. OBSBOT’s Web UI guide
This is a browser-based management and control interface. The guide does not establish HTTP as the camera’s video-stream transport, nor does it document a general-purpose HTTP API. Do not assume that a browser preview means another production system can ingest video over HTTP.
Choose the connection path for the job
| Path | What OBSBOT documents | Compatibility point |
|---|---|---|
| Browser Web UI | Live viewing, tracking and PTZ control, presets, and network/device settings over the same network. OBSBOT Web UI guide | Use a browser on a network that can reach the Tail 2 by device name or IP. This is not documented as HTTP video output. |
| Network video: SRT | Caller and Listener roles, with optional encryption that is off by default. OBSBOT SRT documentation | Match the camera’s role to the receiving endpoint. While SRT is enabled, UVC, RTSP, NDI and Live Stream are unavailable. |
| Other network or control protocols | OBSBOT lists VISCA over IP, VISCA over UART, Pelco D/P and OSC; firmware v7.2.13.1 adds VISCA-over-IP controls for recording start/stop and landscape/portrait switching. OBSBOT firmware notice OBSBOT protocol documentation | Protocol support is specific; it does not imply generic HTTP API support. Confirm that the controller supports the protocol and commands you need. |
| USB-C | The June 2026 software update mentions USB-C mode compatibility for Tail 2 audio devices. OBSBOT firmware notice | The cited official information does not specify computer-side USB video class compatibility, resolutions, frame rates, or USB data authentication. Verify the current manual and firmware-specific documentation for the intended workflow. |
Understand the SRT output trade-off
SRT is a network streaming option distinct from browser administration. OBSBOT documents Caller and Listener roles: one endpoint initiates as Caller and the other accepts as Listener. SRT encryption is optional and off by default, so enable and configure it when the SRT path requires encryption. OBSBOT SRT documentation

Output mode matters: with SRT active, UVC, RTSP, NDI and Live Stream are unavailable. If your workflow depends on one of those outputs at the same time, SRT mode is not compatible with that simultaneous-output requirement.
What is established—and not established—about USB
OBSBOT’s June 2026 release information confirms USB-C mode compatibility for Tail 2 audio devices. It does not, in the material cited here, establish whether a particular computer recognizes the camera as UVC, which video resolutions or frame rates USB supports, whether USB and a network stream can run simultaneously, or what authentication and security properties apply to USB data. Before building a USB-dependent setup, check the current Tail 2 manual and documentation for the exact app and firmware version in use. Treat USB audio compatibility as distinct from USB video compatibility; neither implies the other.

Protect browser access
The Web UI includes controls and configuration, not just read-only status. OBSBOT’s guide describes access on the same network and an initial Admin login that prompts a password change. Change that password during setup, use a unique credential, and restrict access to trusted production-network users. OBSBOT Web UI guide
The cited documentation does not establish whether the Web UI uses HTTP or HTTPS, whether sessions use TLS, or how the interface handles other security details. Do not assume browser sessions are encrypted based on the presence of a login.
Use device permissions on supported firmware
OBSBOT announced device permission settings in Tail 2 firmware v7.2.13.1 on June 8, 2026. The feature lets an owner bind a device to an account and assign a Primary User for authorized access, management and control on shared networks. OBSBOT firmware release notice OBSBOT downloads

If this feature fits your deployment, update to v7.2.13.1 or later and configure the binding and Primary User using OBSBOT’s current instructions. The release notice describes the intended permission capability; check the firmware documentation for setup details.
Keep SRT security separate
SRT’s optional encryption applies to the SRT stream when configured. It does not establish protection for Web UI sessions or USB connections. Assess and configure the security of each path independently. OBSBOT SRT documentation
Limit network exposure
Where practical, keep production cameras on a trusted, access-controlled network segment rather than a guest or untrusted network. This is an operational precaution based on the Web UI’s control and configuration capabilities, not a manufacturer-stated network requirement.
Quick Recap
Check compatibility before deployment
- For browser control: connect the Tail 2 and browser device to a network where the camera is reachable by its device name or IP address; then confirm that the Web UI’s preview and required controls work in the actual environment.
- For network video: select the specific protocol your receiver supports. If choosing SRT, configure opposite Caller/Listener roles and decide whether to enable its optional encryption.
- For simultaneous outputs: verify the selected mode’s constraints. SRT cannot be active alongside UVC, RTSP, NDI or Live Stream, according to OBSBOT.
- For USB: verify the exact audio or video function, host compatibility, and supported modes in the current manual and firmware-specific documentation; the June 2026 compatibility note alone does not specify USB video behavior.
- For security: change the initial Web UI password, restrict network reachability, consider device permissions on supported firmware, and evaluate encryption for the stream protocol separately from browser and USB security.
