Configure YouTube output for the meditation stream
YouTube’s current encoder guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS transport; H.264, H.265 (HEVC) or AV1 video; up to 60 fps; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Use RTMPS when available: YouTube describes it as encrypting the stream as it travels to and through Google’s servers. Keep the stream key private and enter it in the encoder’s stream settings. Choose the bitrate for the actual output
Bitrate recommendations vary by codec, resolution and frame rate. These H.264 examples are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that your encoder or internet connection can sustain the output:

Account for the sound and movement you will actually stream
A meditation stream may appear mostly static, but its audio and any moving background still affect the real output. Test with representative sound and motion before going public. Check that the audio is present, clean and at a suitable level, and that the media loops without an unwanted gap. Set up and test the stream before leaving it unattended
- Prepare the YouTube live stream. In YouTube’s live control room, configure the stream and copy its stream key. Keep the key private. Choose the available latency and DVR settings for the viewing experience you want: YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering, while DVR lets viewers pause and resume during a live stream. - Configure OBS or your verified FFmpeg pipeline. Set the transport, codec, resolution, frame rate, CBR bitrate and keyframe interval to match YouTube’s current guidance. Put the stream key in the encoder’s stream settings; do not share or publish it.

- Check available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the stream’s bitrate and warns that connectivity disruptions can break a stream. Run a speed test under the conditions in which the stream will operate; a result from a different network or time does not guarantee continuous capacity. - Test the whole chain, not just startup. Check that the media repeats cleanly, audio continues, YouTube reports healthy ingest, and you know how to restart the encoder. For OBS, test the documented reconnect setting by simulating an interruption if practical. For FFmpeg, verify looping, reconnect and process restart behavior against the installed version rather than assuming a command will recover unattended.
- Keep a way to notice failures. An encoder reconnect option alone cannot alert you to every source, computer or network failure. Make sure someone can check YouTube’s stream health and act if the stream stops or its audio or video fails.
Copyright and continuous-stream considerations
A 24/7 schedule does not change the need to have the rights to the audio, video, artwork and other material in the broadcast. Check that your intended use is permitted for YouTube live streaming, including any required licenses or permissions. A stream staying online is not evidence that its content is authorized or that YouTube will allow it to remain available. Common problems and what to check
- YouTube reports an unstable or poor connection: Compare actual output bitrate with available upload capacity, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and check for network interruptions. - OBS does not resume after an interruption: Check its automatic reconnect configuration, then test network loss and source failure separately. Reconnect behavior is not a substitute for testing whether the computer, media source and full stream recover.
- An FFmpeg process stops or fails to reconnect: Do not assume a simple looping command supervises itself. Consult documentation for the exact installed build and test both network loss and process failure; the necessary version-specific behavior is not established here.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Treat it as a credential. Keep it out of public posts, logs and shared screenshots; if it is compromised, replace it in YouTube’s stream settings and update the encoder.
