Start with a conservative OBS profile
Use these values as a test profile, not a guarantee of uninterrupted broadcasting. YouTube’s published recommendations are platform guidance; they are not tailored to India, a specific carrier, or a particular cell site. YouTube’s live encoder settings lists the H.264 bitrate recommendations.

In OBS, the exact encoder names and available hardware options vary by computer and graphics hardware. Choose an H.264 encoder your system supports; the evidence here does not establish a single best encoder for every PC.
Choose a bitrate your hotspot can sustain
YouTube’s recommendations give a reference point, not a minimum you must hit. The listed H.264 figures are 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps, 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, and 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. These are Google / YouTube Help recommendations accessed in 2026, not Indian mobile-network measurements. See YouTube’s encoder-setting table.

- Variable or uncertain upload: Begin by testing 720p30. If OBS or YouTube reports connection or stream-health trouble, reduce resolution or frame rate and test again.
- 720p at 60 fps: Consider it only if your connection can sustain the higher 6 Mbps video bitrate in a representative test.
- 1080p at 30 fps: YouTube’s listed recommendation is 10 Mbps. Do not select it merely because a brief speed test shows a high peak.
Choose a quality the connection can reliably support. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and running a representative pre-stream test. A short speed-test result cannot establish that the hotspot will hold the selected bitrate over a long broadcast. Estimate the mobile data before going live
A continuous stream can use a large amount of data. The following estimates cover video payload only, calculated as bitrate × time ÷ 8 using decimal gigabytes. They exclude audio, protocol overhead, retransmissions, and variable-rate behavior; actual carrier accounting can differ.

These are calculations from the cited bitrates, not a quote from an Indian carrier or a forecast of its billing. Check your plan’s data allowance and run a shorter session before relying on it for 24/7 streaming.
Test the complete setup before making it continuous
- Measure at the actual location. Check sustained upload where the hotspot and streaming computer will run. Repeat at relevant times if conditions vary; a peak result alone does not show what the connection can hold continuously.
- Configure OBS with the starting profile. Set H.264, CBR, the bitrate your sustained test supports, a 2-second keyframe interval, and stereo AAC audio. Start at 720p30 rather than assuming a faster or higher-resolution setting will work.
- Run an unlisted or otherwise suitable test. Use the real scene, representative motion, and the audio you intend to broadcast. YouTube advises testing before going live and recommends a representative test.
- Watch stream health and connection status. If the test has problems, change one setting at a time—such as lowering bitrate, frame rate, or resolution—then repeat the test.
- Check long-run operating conditions. Verify power, device temperature, carrier terms, local coverage, and data allowance. These are operational checks; no single adjustment is established as a guaranteed fix for an individual hotspot.

Troubleshoot a test that will not hold
- Stream health worsens or the connection drops: First lower the video bitrate. If that is not enough, lower the resolution or frame rate and test again. A local upload connection may not sustain the selected output.
- A speed test looks good but the live test fails: A brief peak does not establish sustained upload. Test OBS at the actual location with representative content and monitor the live stream’s health.
- Problems continue after lowering output: Follow YouTube’s connection troubleshooting guidance. It includes testing a different server and checking whether network software is affecting OBS traffic. YouTube Help: troubleshoot live-stream issues.
- The stream works briefly but is unsuitable for a 24/7 run: Recheck power, device temperature, local coverage, carrier terms, and data allowance. The available official guidance does not establish a carrier-specific cause or a guaranteed remedy for any one of these conditions.
