Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If an OBS playlist will not move to the next video, first check whether the source is VLC Video or Media Source. OBS documents VLC Video as the source that supports a playlist; Media Source plays an individual file and has its own loop control. Then compare what you see in OBS with YouTube’s Live Control Room preview: the point where the picture stops helps identify whether the problem is the media source, the encoder or connection, or an individual viewer’s playback. The troubleshooting steps below apply generally; the India context alone does not indicate a regional OBS defect.
First identify where the video stops
“OBS playlist not moving to the next video” can describe three different problems. Check each display before changing settings:
- OBS preview or program is stuck: investigate the source type, playlist entries, media files, VLC installation, and source visibility behavior.
- OBS changes clips but YouTube Live Control Room does not: investigate the encoder output, stream health, and upload connection.
- Live Control Room advances but one viewer sees a freeze or delay: investigate that viewer’s device and connection. A single viewer’s stale picture does not, by itself, mean the OBS playlist failed.
OBS source controls, YouTube stream-health information, and viewer playback are separate checkpoints. YouTube recommends checking the event on watch pages and mobile devices as well as reviewing Live Control Room status messages. YouTube’s live metrics guidance and streaming tips describe those checks.
Fix an OBS playlist that does not advance
1. Confirm the source is VLC Video
In OBS, open the source’s properties from the Sources dock. If you want several files to play in sequence, confirm that the source is VLC Video and that the intended files appear in its playlist. OBS documents VLC Video as supporting playlists. Its ordinary Media Source is a different source type for individual media files, with a file-level loop setting rather than the playlist controls described for VLC Video. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Check VLC installation and architecture
VLC Video requires VLC to be installed. If the VLC Video source is unavailable or cannot play the list, install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS: the OBS guide specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS. Reopen OBS after installing VLC, then test the source again.
3. Verify playlist and visibility settings
In VLC Video properties, review the playlist entries and the Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist options. Make sure the selected behavior matches the intended order and whether playback should repeat. Also inspect Visibility Behaviour. OBS lists “Stop when not visible, restart when visible” as the default. If a scene change hides the source, that behavior may stop or restart playback rather than letting it continue as expected. Temporarily keep the source visible through a clip transition to test whether visibility is the cause.

4. Watch the transition in OBS before changing stream settings
Let the current clip reach its end while watching the OBS preview or program. If the next item does not appear locally, focus on the source configuration, files, VLC dependency, and visibility behavior. Changing YouTube settings will not correct a playlist that is already stuck inside OBS.
5. If OBS advances, compare it with Live Control Room
If the local OBS output changes clips but YouTube’s Live Control Room preview does not, inspect YouTube’s stream-health message and the encoder’s local output. YouTube recommends checking that the encoder is current, reviewing audio and video in the encoder, looking for encoder errors and high CPU load, and then testing outbound internet strength if the encoder output appears healthy. 6. Check upload capacity and dropped frames
A playlist can advance correctly in OBS while an unstable or overloaded connection prevents a clean stream from reaching YouTube. YouTube recommends leaving upload bandwidth headroom: its guidance says the total stream bitrate should not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% room. OBS’s connection troubleshooting associates dropped frames with an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain; it suggests starting around 75% of total upload speed for video bitrate. Treat both figures as starting guidance, not guarantees for a particular Indian ISP, route, or time of day. Check YouTube’s streaming tips and OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide.
7. If the issue affects only one viewer
Ask the viewer to try another supported device or connection and check whether congestion is affecting playback. YouTube notes that network congestion and other factors can delay live programming. If OBS and Live Control Room are advancing normally, a delay on one viewer’s device does not establish a playlist fault. See YouTube’s streaming and video troubleshooting guidance.

8. Address OBS rendering or encoding load only when indicated
If OBS shows performance problems or cannot keep up with rendering or encoding, check system load and OBS performance indicators. OBS recommends reducing output resolution or frame rate and simplifying scenes when GPU or rendering load prevents OBS from keeping up. This is a targeted remedy for performance evidence, not the first fix for a misconfigured playlist. See OBS’s encoding performance troubleshooting guide.

| What you observe | Where to investigate first |
|---|---|
| OBS preview/program stays on the same clip | VLC Video source, playlist entries, VLC installation, playlist options, and Visibility Behaviour. |
| OBS advances but Live Control Room does not | YouTube stream health, encoder output and errors, CPU load, upload connection, and dropped frames. |
| Live Control Room advances but one viewer sees a freeze or delay | That viewer’s device and connection, including possible network congestion. |
These distinctions help avoid treating a playlist configuration problem as an upload problem, or a viewer-side delay as proof that the source failed.
