For a prerecorded playlist streamed from OBS to YouTube, start with RTMPS, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and a bitrate matched to your resolution and frame rate. In OBS, select the AMD AMF encoder only if your GPU and current driver expose it. Then test the full playlist and monitor YouTube’s stream health: settings alone cannot guarantee an unattended stream will stay online.
Recommended OBS AMD settings for YouTube Live
Use these as a starting point for an SDR H.264 stream. YouTube’s bitrate figures are platform recommendations, not a promise that your connection or a particular AMD encoder can sustain them. Choose a rate your measured upload can maintain reliably, then test before relying on the stream.

| Setting | Starting point | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest. RTMP/RTMPS are the ingest options covered by the cited settings guidance. |
| Video encoder | AMD AMF, if available | OBS supports AMD Advanced Media Framework on Windows and Linux. Availability depends on GPU and driver; use current drivers. |
| Video codec | H.264 | YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS. Confirm support across your AMD hardware, OBS build, and ingest path before choosing another codec. The bitrate table below is for H.264. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube recommends constant bitrate for the ingest stream. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Frame rate | Up to 60 fps | Pick 30 or 60 fps based on the source material and the bitrate your connection can sustain. |
| Audio | AAC or MP3; stereo, 44.1 kHz, 128 Kbps | These are YouTube’s listed RTMP/RTMPS audio recommendations. |
| SDR color | Rec. 709, 8-bit | Use the SDR guidance for an SDR playlist. |
| Advanced video guidance | Square pixels, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, CABAC | These are YouTube recommendations. Use them only where the specific OBS AMF controls expose them. |
Choose a bitrate for the playlist
The figures below are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations on its current encoder-settings help page, accessed in 2026. They are not measured guarantees for an AMD GPU or a particular internet connection.

| Resolution and frame rate | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps |
| 1440p30 | 21 Mbps |
| 1440p60 | 34 Mbps |
Choose resolution and frame rate with both picture detail and sustained upload capacity in mind. YouTube recommends running a speed test to test upload bitrate; leave practical headroom rather than assuming a speed-test peak will remain available continuously. If the connection cannot sustain the recommendation, lower the output resolution, frame rate, or bitrate and validate stream health with a test.

Configure and test OBS before leaving it unattended
- Check AMF availability. Update the GPU driver, open OBS’s output/streaming encoder choices, and confirm an AMD AMF option appears. OBS documents AMF support on Windows and Linux; consult its hardware encoding guidance. The linked AMD encoder compatibility wiki is archived and its hardware page dates to 2019, so it is historical reference material, not a current exhaustive compatibility matrix or buying guide.
- Set the YouTube stream connection. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and use its stream key in OBS’s stream settings. YouTube supports reusable stream settings and custom stream keys. Treat auto-start and auto-stop as stream-management controls, not as substitutes for a recovery plan.
- Set OBS output parameters. Choose AMD AMF if available; set H.264, CBR, the selected sustainable bitrate, a 2-second keyframe interval, and a frame rate no higher than 60 fps. Set audio and SDR color to the recommendations above where available. OBS’s exact AMF labels and controls can differ by GPU, driver, and build; there is no universal optimal AMF preset established for every combination.
- Test the actual playlist. Start well ahead of when viewers need the stream. Include audio and motion similar to the planned playlist, and watch the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages. Check that viewers can access the event and that both video and audio are healthy.
- Plan monitoring and recovery. During the stream, check YouTube’s health indicators and the viewer-facing stream. If you have configured encoder failover, test it. If recording locally, verify the archive file continues growing and that storage and the resulting file can be monitored. These checks reduce avoidable surprises; they do not guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 service.
What matters specifically for a 24/7 playlist
AMD AMF can encode the video, but it does not make a local computer, operating system, internet connection, or power supply immune to interruption. A local OBS setup gives you control and uses your existing hardware, but it requires that computer and connection to remain available and monitored. YouTube’s monitoring guidance calls for checking preview, audio/video quality, archive integrity where applicable, and any configured failover; no cited source promises zero downtime.
YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos. That is a different workflow from an AMD OBS preset. Check a cloud provider’s current features, terms, and pricing directly before choosing it.

Troubleshooting common problems
- No AMD encoder appears in OBS: check that the GPU supports the driver’s AMF implementation, install a current driver, and verify the OBS version and operating system. Do not assume every AMD GPU or setup exposes identical controls.
- Stream health reports instability or dropped frames: compare the configured bitrate with sustained upload capacity, test the connection, and reduce bitrate or output resolution/frame rate if necessary. Re-test under conditions resembling the intended long run.
- Video is unavailable or does not start as expected: verify the selected YouTube event, stream key, and ingest connection in Live Control Room and OBS. Confirm the preview before treating the stream as live for viewers.
- Audio is missing or poor: check that the playlist includes the expected audio, OBS is sending the intended audio source, and the output uses a supported codec and YouTube’s stereo guidance. Monitor the Live Control Room preview during the test.
- A playlist runs but the stream does not recover after an interruption: inspect YouTube’s stream-management settings and any configured failover. Auto-start/auto-stop are not recovery guarantees; test the backup path if one exists.
- A local archive stops growing or storage fills: check the recording destination and available storage, and monitor archive integrity rather than assuming a long recording is being saved correctly.
Copyright and monetization considerations
A video being prerecorded does not grant permission to rebroadcast it. Use videos, music, and other material you own or are licensed to stream, and confirm the scope of any license covers continuous live use on YouTube. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from whether OBS can encode the stream; a technically healthy stream does not establish that its content is permitted or eligible for monetization. Review YouTube’s current policies and permissions for your specific material before going live.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsOr let it run in the cloud
If the playlist needs to keep running while your computer is off, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
