Oakley Meta HSTN Explained: What These Smart Glasses Do

Oakley Meta HSTN adds hands-free photos and video, open-ear audio, calls and Meta AI features to HSTN-style eyewear—without a documented in-lens display.

Oakley Meta HSTN glasses combine Oakley HSTN-style eyewear with a camera, open-ear speakers, touch and voice controls, and Meta AI features. They can capture photos and video, play audio, handle calls, and respond to supported AI commands. Oakley and Meta’s cited product pages do not describe an in-lens display, so HSTN should not be mistaken for display or augmented-reality glasses.

What are Oakley Meta HSTN glasses?

They are smart glasses developed by Oakley and Meta, built around Oakley’s HSTN frame style. Meta introduced them as eyewear for athletes and fans; their technology is for capturing and sharing media, listening to audio, making calls, and using supported Meta AI features.

The glasses do not have a documented screen in the lenses. Their camera, speakers, microphones, and controls add functions to conventional eyewear rather than placing visual overlays in front of the wearer.

What can they do?

  • Capture: Take hands-free photos and videos using voice or touch controls.
  • Play audio and handle calls: Two open-ear speakers provide audio while leaving the ears uncovered; the glasses also support calls.
  • Use Meta AI: Ask questions or issue supported voice commands. Meta’s launch announcement gave “Hey Meta, take a video” as an example.
  • Manage and share media: The Meta AI app handles settings and supports importing and sharing captures. Oakley says the app is required.

For one specific US listing, Oakley publishes a 12-megapixel camera, a custom five-microphone array, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and 32 GB of flash storage. Its listed image acquisition resolution is 3024 × 4032 pixels; video acquisition is listed up to 2203 × 2938 pixels at 30 frames per second. These are specifications for model OW8002-0351, not independent test results.

  • Wireless internet access and a valid Meta account.

Check Oakley’s supported-phone information before buying. Feature availability depends on country and language, and the product page says full voice commands are available only in English, French, Spanish, and Italian. A listed feature may therefore not be available in every market or language.

How long does the battery last?

Battery life depends on use and configuration, so the published figures are estimates rather than guaranteed runtimes. Meta’s June 20, 2025 launch announcement said up to eight hours of typical use and up to 19 hours on standby. Oakley’s product listing describes up to eight hours at moderate use, or five hours of continuous audio playback or voice calling.

The charging case can provide up to 48 hours of additional charging, according to Meta’s announcement and Oakley’s product listing. That figure is extra charging from the case, not a claim that the glasses themselves run for 48 hours on one charge. Meta also said the glasses could reach 50% charge in 20 minutes; treat this as a manufacturer claim.

Are Oakley Meta HSTN glasses water-resistant?

Meta’s launch announcement gives the glasses an IPX4 water-resistance rating. That is the published rating; it does not mean the glasses are waterproof or suitable for submersion.

Can you get prescription lenses or replacements?

The official pages show multiple frame and lens combinations and prescription pathways, and Meta described the HSTN collection as prescription-compatible at launch. Oakley also lists HSTN replacement lenses. Before ordering, confirm that the prescription, lens type, frame, and replacement lens all match the specific model you intend to buy.

Where are they sold, and what do they cost?

Oakley’s US FAQ lists Oakley.com, official Oakley stores, and certified Oakley dealers as purchase routes. It also lists Meta as a seller in select markets. The countries named on that page are the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Australia. Stock and shipping eligibility can change, so check the regional listing for the exact frame and lens configuration.

Meta’s June 20, 2025 announcement gave launch prices of $399 USD for the collection and $499 USD for a limited edition. Those are historical launch prices, not confirmation of current pricing. Current cost depends on market and configuration; check the seller’s live listing before purchasing.

What to check before buying

  • Confirm your phone meets the operating-system requirement and is supported.
  • Check whether the Meta AI app and the features you want are available in your country and preferred language.
  • Verify the precise frame, lens, prescription, and replacement-lens compatibility.
  • Review the live price and stock for your market rather than relying on launch pricing.
  • Plan for a USB-C cable or adapter if you do not already have one, since Oakley says the charging case is supplied without a cable.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
