How to read the date and puzzle number

The answer pages identify the puzzle as Monday, October 5, 2026, and label it #1212. That number is disputed: Wordle.today associates #1212 with July 17, 2026. Neither the date nor the number is officially verified here. The answer pages are third-party sources, and no official NYT result had surfaced by October 4, 2026, the timestamp of the available information.
