Start with this three-point check
Before changing Windows files, identify what is actually calling nxmylpac.dll.
- Which program displays the error? Look for Nero, Nero Burning ROM, an old Nero audio tool, or an unfamiliar executable in the dialog.
- When does it happen? Note whether it appears when Windows starts, when Nero opens, or when you import or play an LPAC audio file.
- Is Windows 32-bit or 64-bit? Press Windows key + I, select System, then About. Check System type.
nxmylpac.dll is an old LPAC plugin for Nero, associated with Mausau’s audio plugins for Nero Burning ROM. It is not a Windows system file. The safest repair is therefore to repair or reinstall the Nero installation that needs it, not to copy a replacement DLL into System32.

What the nxmylpac.dll error means
LPAC stands for Lossless Predictive Audio Compression. Older Nero audio software could use an LPAC plugin to work with that format.

The file may be mentioned in messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because nxmylpac.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because nxmylpac.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading nxmylpac.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load nxmylpac.dll.”
- “This application failed to start because nxmylpac.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”
These messages usually mean that an old Nero component is looking for its plugin and cannot find it. The cause may be an incomplete uninstall, a damaged installation, antivirus quarantine, manual deletion, or a plugin left behind after a Nero upgrade.

It can also mean that Windows found the DLL but could not load one of its dependencies. That is why downloading a file with the same name is not a reliable repair.
Fix 1: Repair Nero from Windows
Repair is the quickest safe fix if Nero is still installed.
Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Nero, Nero Burning ROM, or an old Nero audio-plugin entry.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and open the Nero component that produced the error.
If the repair option is not shown, use the traditional Programs and Features panel:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the Nero entry.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Modify.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart the computer.
Microsoft documents these repair paths in its guide to repairing apps and programs in Windows.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select the Nero installation.
- Choose Advanced options, if present.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and test Nero again.
If Windows provides only Modify or Change, select that option and choose the repair function in the Nero installer.
How to tell whether repair worked
Repair succeeded if Nero opens without the missing-file message and the affected audio task works again. If the error appears only when opening an LPAC file, test that specific operation rather than only launching Nero.
If repair fails, continue with a clean reinstall. Do not immediately search for a standalone nxmylpac.dll.

- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Select Nero.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Complete the Nero uninstall wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Install Nero again using your original installer, installation media, or a trusted official Nero installer.
- If the installer offers optional audio plugins, select the component required for LPAC support.
- Restart Windows once more.
- Test the application.
If your Nero copy came with a computer, disc, software manager, or OEM recovery package, use that source’s repair or verification function. The exact Nero release that originally included this DLL is not publicly established, so a current Nero installer may not contain the legacy LPAC plugin.
If you no longer use LPAC files, you do not necessarily need to restore the plugin. Removing the obsolete Nero component, disabling its startup entry, or uninstalling the old Nero program may be safer than adding an unsigned DLL from an unknown source.

Windows Security may have removed a legacy or unsigned plugin. Do not restore it automatically. First confirm that it came from your trusted Nero installation.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Open the event that mentions
nxmylpac.dll, if present. - Check the original file path and detection details.
- Restore or allow the file only if you recognize the Nero installation and trust its source.
- Restart Nero and test it.
Microsoft explains the available quarantine actions in its guide to Protection history in Windows Security.
If the file came from a random download site, email attachment, unofficial software bundle, or unknown folder, do not restore it. Remove the old Nero installation and reinstall it from a trusted source instead. A DLL filename alone does not prove that the file is genuine.
Fix 4: Confirm that Nero is looking in the correct folder
Do not assume that every copy of nxmylpac.dll is valid.
- Open File Explorer.
- In the search box, search the drives where Nero is installed for
nxmylpac.dll. - Right-click a result and select Open file location.
- Inspect the containing folder.
- Check whether the folder belongs to Nero or to an unrelated program.
- Right-click the file, select Properties, and review the Details tab.
- Compare the location with the executable named by the error.
A legitimate Nero plugin should normally be beside or beneath the application’s own installation or plugin directories. The exact original directory is not verified for every Nero release.
Do not copy the file to:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- The root of
C:Windows - An arbitrary game or application folder
System32 and SysWOW64 are not general DLL storage locations. Copying a Nero plugin there can leave the original problem unresolved and create confusion about which copy Windows is loading.
If Nero was installed in a custom folder, reinstall it into that location through the installer rather than manually moving individual files.

Fix 5: Check the calling executable
Sometimes the file is requested by an old shortcut, startup entry, shell extension, or uninstaller even though the active Nero installation works.
The Tool Desk

- Read the full title and body of the dialog.
- Note the executable name if it is shown.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Look for the matching process while the error is visible.
- Right-click it and choose Open file location, if available.
- Check whether the executable belongs to Nero.
Also check Settings > Apps > Startup for an old Nero launcher. Disable only an entry you recognize and do not need at startup.
If the error appears during Windows sign-in but Nero itself opens normally, inspect old startup entries and scheduled tasks before repairing Windows. The missing file may be requested by a leftover component rather than the program you currently use.
Fix 6: Test for a per-user Nero configuration problem
A damaged user profile can prevent an otherwise intact application from finding its plugin configuration.
To test this:
- Open Settings > Accounts > Other users.
- Select Add account.
- Create a temporary local Windows account.
- Sign in to that account.
- Launch Nero and repeat the operation that produced the error.
If Nero works in the new account, the installation may be intact and the problem may be stored in your original profile’s Nero settings. Do not copy DLLs between profiles. Instead, reset Nero’s configuration using its own settings or reinstall procedure, preserving projects and license information first.
If the error occurs in every account, focus on the Nero installation, quarantine history, and compatibility between the plugin and the Nero executable.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components as a secondary step
nxmylpac.dll is not identified as a Windows-protected system file, so SFC and DISM normally will not recreate it. They are useful when other Windows programs also fail, Windows components are damaged, or the error began with broader system instability.
First install pending updates:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart when prompted.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Choose Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands complete. Microsoft provides guidance for repairing a Windows image and using System File Checker.
If either command reports repaired files, test Nero again. If both complete without finding a problem and Nero still reports the DLL error, return to the application repair or reinstall steps.

Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time. Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan that shows what it identifies, while the repair function is available with the full version; however, reinstalling the Nero package remains the definitive fix for this application-specific plugin.
Fix 8: Check architecture and compatibility
A 64-bit Windows installation can run a 32-bit version of Nero. The plugin must match the architecture of the Nero process that loads it, not merely the architecture of Windows.
Check the application:
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Details.
- Right-click a column heading and choose Select columns, if needed.
- Look for architecture information where Windows provides it.
- Alternatively, check the Nero installer or product documentation for whether the installed program is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Do not rely on third-party labels claiming that a particular copy of nxmylpac.dll is “x64.” The file’s architecture has not been independently verified from an authoritative binary record.
If a 32-bit Nero installation is trying to load an incompatible plugin, reinstall the complete matching Nero and plugin package. Do not mix files from different releases.
A generic message saying that a program “is not designed to run on Windows” can indicate corruption or incompatibility, but that message is not specifically established for this file. Treat it as a reason to replace the complete Nero package rather than one DLL.
Fix 9: Do not use regsvr32 for this plugin
regsvr32 is not a universal DLL repair command. It is used for DLLs that provide registration entry points, commonly COM or ActiveX components.
There is no reliable evidence that nxmylpac.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX DLL. Running this command is therefore not a recommended repair:
regsvr32 nxmylpac.dll
It may produce an entry-point or registration error, and even a successful registration would not restore Nero’s plugin configuration. Do not run it from System32 or SysWOW64 as a troubleshooting shortcut.

Fix 10: Investigate drivers only if the error identifies one
An nxmylpac.dll message normally points to Nero, not a device driver. Device Manager is relevant only if the same event also mentions an audio device, missing controller, or driver failure.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Look for a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test Nero.
If updating does not help, right-click the device, select Uninstall device, restart Windows, and allow Windows to reinstall it. Use the hardware manufacturer’s official driver when Windows cannot find a suitable one.

Manually hunting through driver versions can be slower than identifying the one stale device. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show which drivers it identifies, while the driver installation feature is available with the full version; a driver update is not a substitute for reinstalling Nero when Nero is the actual parent application.
Avoid standalone DLL download sites
Do not download nxmylpac.dll from a random DLL repository and copy it into a Windows folder. That approach can fail because:
- The file may contain malware or unwanted modifications.
- It may be the wrong build or architecture.
- Its dependencies may still be missing.
- Nero may require additional plugin files or configuration.
- A copied file can be overwritten or quarantined again.
- You may hide the original installation problem.
Use the original Nero installation media, a trusted installer supplied through Nero, or the software manager that originally installed the application. If no trusted installer exists and LPAC support is unnecessary, remove the obsolete Nero component instead of installing an unverified replacement.
If the error remains after reinstalling
Record these details before seeking further help:
- The exact error text
- The executable named in the dialog
- The full path of the executable
- The Nero product and installed release
- Whether the error occurs at startup or only with LPAC files
- Whether antivirus quarantined the plugin
- Whether Nero works under a new Windows account
- Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit
For deeper diagnosis, use Process Monitor to see which paths the application searches for nxmylpac.dll. If the application searches an old folder, remove the stale shortcut or correct the Nero installation rather than adding the DLL to that folder.
If the problem began immediately after a known uninstall or update and a suitable restore point exists, Windows System Restore may help. Microsoft lists this and other recovery choices in its Windows recovery options.
Frequently asked questions
Is nxmylpac.dll a Windows file?
No. It is an old third-party Nero audio plugin associated with Mausau’s audio plugins for Nero Burning ROM. It should not normally be placed in System32 or SysWOW64.
Do I need Visual C++ Redistributable?
There is no confirmed evidence that this particular plugin requires the current Visual C++ Redistributable. Install it only if the error separately names a runtime such as MSVCP###.dll or VCRUNTIME###.dll. Use Microsoft’s supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads, not a third-party DLL package.
Will SFC or DISM restore nxmylpac.dll?
Normally no. They repair Windows components, while nxmylpac.dll belongs to Nero. Run them when other Windows files are failing, but repair or reinstall Nero for this specific plugin.
Is the missing file proof of malware?
No. The file has a legitimate historical association with Nero. However, a file bearing that name in an unrelated folder is not automatically trustworthy. Check its provenance and scan it before restoring anything quarantined.
Does Windows 11 support this old plugin?
Windows may run an older Nero program through compatibility mechanisms, but the plugin’s compatibility with a particular Nero release is not guaranteed. Reinstall the matching application and plugin package, and do not assume that a current Nero installer includes LPAC support.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Should I use System Restore?
Use it only when the problem started after a known installation or removal event and a suitable restore point exists. It is a recovery option, not the primary repair for an old Nero plugin.
What is the most likely fix?
Identify the Nero executable reporting the error, then repair or reinstall the original Nero installation or audio-plugin package. If LPAC support is no longer needed, removing the obsolete component is safer than downloading a replacement DLL.
