Options-market pricing cited by CNBC on October 5, 2026, implied roughly a 50% chance Nvidia would reach a $6 trillion market capitalization by the end of October. The estimate was about 13% for that week and about 67% by December 18. These were dated, market-implied odds—not a guarantee or a settled forecast.
What timing did the options market imply?
CNBC reported that Nvidia’s market value stood just under $5.7 trillion after its shares rose 1.3% on the Friday before the October 5 report. Its options-based estimates put the chance of reaching $6 trillion at approximately 13% that week, 50% by October month-end, and 67% by December 18. The figures describe different time horizons and should be read alongside their dates, not as interchangeable probabilities. CNBC’s October 5, 2026 report also said options pricing implied roughly a one-in-sixteen chance of a $7 trillion value by November 20. It associated that threshold with a $248 share price using the then-current share count.

How were the odds derived—and what do they mean?
CNBC attributed the estimates to market-maker pricing of deltas on Nvidia options expiring that week and on October 30. The report did not identify the exact contracts, timestamped option prices, or calculation used to convert those prices into probabilities for market-cap thresholds. The odds therefore cannot be independently reconstructed from the report’s published details.
Delta is a theoretical estimate of how much an option’s premium may change when the underlying stock moves by one unit, all else equal. Some traders also use delta as a rough proxy for the probability that an option will finish in the money. The Options Industry Council’s explanation of delta notes that delta changes as the share price, time to expiration, and implied volatility change. It is not a fixed probability that Nvidia will reach a particular market capitalization.

The report cautioned that a move of comparable size in the opposite direction was also possible when using deltas to gauge a range of outcomes. It also described higher implied volatility for some calls than equivalent puts as call skew, which it characterized as a sign of upside-hedging bias. Such pricing can reflect how investors are positioning or hedging; it does not verify a directional prediction.
How to read the reported thresholds
| Threshold | Reported timing | Options-implied estimate |
|---|---|---|
| $6 trillion | That week, as reported October 5, 2026 | Approximately 13% |
| $6 trillion | By October 31, 2026 | Approximately 50% |
| $6 trillion | By December 18, 2026 | Approximately 67% |
| $7 trillion | By November 20, 2026 | Approximately one in sixteen; CNBC said this threshold corresponded to $248 per share using the then-current share count |
All percentages and the share-price equivalent above are estimates reported by CNBC for a particular market snapshot, not independently recalculated figures. They should not be treated as current odds or targets after that snapshot.

What else did CNBC say about Nvidia’s market influence?
At the time of its report, CNBC put Nvidia’s weight at about 13% of the Nasdaq-100 and 8% of the S&P 500. Those are dated index-weight figures, not current values. The report also quoted Ben Emons, managing director at Highline Asset Management, describing Nvidia’s buyback as “not just a payout but a capital-allocation event that asserts confidence in long-run AI demand.” That is Emons’s interpretation of the buyback, not proof that future AI demand will meet expectations.

A fresh estimate would require current share-price and shares-outstanding data to calculate market capitalization, alongside a live Nvidia options chain and a clearly specified method for translating option prices or deltas into threshold probabilities. Because CNBC did not publish the precise contracts or calculation behind its October 2026 estimates, those figures alone are not enough to produce a reproducible update.
