Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteAt the UK prices listed on 4 October 2026, both phones start at £299, but the base versions do not have matching memory: Nothing’s Phone (4b) is listed with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, while Xiaomi’s REDMI Note 17 5G has 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Xiaomi also lists a 6GB+256GB version for £329 in its launch terms. On paper, Xiaomi offers the larger display and higher stated battery capacity; Nothing advertises 4K video, while Xiaomi’s UK specification lists rear video up to 1080p at 30fps. Those specifications alone do not establish which phone performs better, takes better photos or lasts longer in everyday use.
UK price difference: both base versions are listed at £299
Nothing’s UK listing shows the Phone (4b) with 8GB+128GB for £299. Xiaomi’s UK launch terms list the REDMI Note 17 5G with 6GB+128GB for £299 and 6GB+256GB for £329. The base prices tie, but the RAM differs; the £329 Xiaomi version adds storage, not RAM. These are the listed prices, not a guarantee of today’s checkout price. Xiaomi describes its figures as original prices under launch terms running from 17 September to 16 October 2026, or while stocks last. Check the live listings before buying.

#1 Best Overall
Display: Xiaomi lists the larger screen
The REDMI Note 17 5G’s listed 6.99-inch display is 0.22 inches larger diagonally than the Phone (4b)’s 6.77-inch panel. Xiaomi specifies FHD+ resolution of 2396 × 1080 and refresh up to 120Hz. Nothing describes a Super AMOLED screen with adaptive refresh up to 120Hz. Both therefore have high-refresh AMOLED displays on paper, but the size and refresh-rate descriptions are not identical. The specifications do not establish differences in brightness, color accuracy or visibility in sunlight.
Battery and charging: capacity figures are not runtime tests
Xiaomi lists a 7,700mAh typical battery and 45W turbo charging. Nothing’s UK information states 5,200mAh and makes a fast-charging claim; the 6,000mAh figure sometimes shown for Phone (4b) is India-only, not the UK model. Battery capacity alone cannot establish which phone lasts longer: actual runtime depends on factors such as display use, network conditions and software.
Xiaomi says its UK package does not include a power adapter and recommends a compatible 45W PD charger or its official 45W adapter. Its specifications list a cable and protective case among package contents, while warning that contents can vary by region.

Cameras and video: headline megapixels do not settle image quality
Both manufacturers list a 50MP main rear camera. Nothing promotes 4K video recording, whereas Xiaomi’s UK specifications list rear video recording up to 1080p at 30fps. That is a meaningful difference in the published video modes, but it does not show which phone produces better photos or video in practice. A shared megapixel count is not enough to predict image quality, and no controlled camera comparison is available here.
Processor, durability and network compatibility
Xiaomi identifies the REDMI Note 17 5G processor as Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, with a listed maximum clock speed of 2.3GHz. The captured Nothing UK product material describes an eight-core Snapdragon CPU but does not establish its model number, so a precise processor comparison is not possible from those claims alone.
Xiaomi lists IP65 protection and qualifies it as resistance under specified laboratory conditions. It warns that resistance may deteriorate through wear or damage, and that liquid damage outside the test conditions is not covered; IP65 should not be read as waterproof. The cited Nothing UK material does not establish a comparable protection rating.

Xiaomi also cautions that network connectivity can vary by region and operator. Before buying either model for use outside the UK—or on a particular carrier—check the exact device variant and supported bands with the manufacturer and network provider.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhich phone should you choose?
- Consider the Phone (4b) if the listed 8GB+128GB configuration matters to you, or if Nothing’s advertised 4K video capability is a priority.
- Consider the REDMI Note 17 5G if you prefer the larger listed display, the higher stated battery capacity, or the 6GB+256GB option. Budget for a compatible power adapter if you do not already have one.
- Compare the right configuration and current checkout price. The £299 base listings have different RAM amounts, and prices or stock can change.
These are decision points based on published UK specifications, not a performance verdict. The available official material does not provide a controlled side-by-side benchmark, battery run or camera shootout, so it cannot substantiate an overall winner for speed, endurance or image quality.
