Those figures are not directly interchangeable: the advertised peak is a manufacturer claim, while the reviews report instrument readings under specific test conditions. In bright surroundings the display is usable, though reflections and strong sunlight can still make it harder to read than the headline number suggests.
What brightness does Nothing claim?
Nothing’s US product page describes a 6.77-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, but its retrieved specifications do not give a brightness figure. The numerical claim appears in a Nothing Community launch post: 1,200 nits for outdoor brightness and up to 2,000 nits peak brightness, alongside HDR10+ support. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements of sustained full-screen brightness.

What did independent tests measure?
Two reviews put their measured results in a similar general range, but they did not report identical figures or establish a shared testing protocol.
#1 Best Overall
| Source | Reported result | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| PhoneArena | 1,119 nits peak brightness | PhoneArena’s in-house display test; its review describes legibility in bright surroundings but says outdoor visibility has limits. |
| Notebookcheck | 1,148 cd/m² maximum; 1,160 cd/m² APL18 peak | Notebookcheck reports both values separately and says its sample did not reach the advertised 2,000 cd/m². |
Nits and cd/m² are equivalent units. The small spread between these independent readings should not be collapsed into a universal Phone (4b) rating: the reviews may use different procedures, and Notebookcheck’s maximum and APL18 results are distinct measurements.

Is the Phone (4b) bright enough outdoors?
The review evidence points to a screen that can be used in bright conditions, but not one that guarantees effortless reading in every outdoor setting. PhoneArena found it legible in bright surroundings while noting limits to its outdoor visibility. Notebookcheck cautioned that reading in sunny outdoor conditions can sometimes be difficult.

Does it actually reach 2,000 nits?
Nothing publishes 2,000 nits as a peak-brightness claim, but the independent review tests cited here measured lower values: 1,119 nits at PhoneArena and 1,148 cd/m² maximum or 1,160 cd/m² APL18 peak at Notebookcheck. On the evidence available from those reviews, 2,000 nits is not a result they reproduced. The figures should not be treated as a like-for-like test of the manufacturer’s peak claim because the sources do not establish matching measurement conditions.
