There is no verified TWRP, OrangeFox, or Pitch Black Recovery build for either the Nothing Phone (4a) or Phone (4a) Pro in the official sources reviewed. Do not flash an image intended for another Nothing phone: recovery support must match the exact model and software build.
What is confirmed for these Nothing phones?
Team Win’s official Nothing device listing names the Nothing Phone 2A, codename Pacman. It does not list the Phone (4a) or Phone (4a) Pro. The reviewed sources also do not verify an exact-model OrangeFox or Pitch Black Recovery build for either phone. That means support is unconfirmed here; it does not prove that no unofficial community build exists.

Nothing’s Phone (4a) Pro operating-system support page currently says it runs Nothing OS 4.1 with Android 16. This is a version-sensitive statement and does not establish that any custom recovery supports that model or software.

Why a recovery for a similar phone is not a safe substitute
Custom recovery images are device-specific. Team Win warns: “Downloading an image for a different device, no matter how similar, usually does not work.” A build for the Phone 2A, another Nothing model, or an Android version that looks compatible is not evidence of support for the Phone (4a) or Phone (4a) Pro.

- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
Before considering any future community build, look for a maintainer’s documentation that identifies the exact model or codename and the Nothing OS/Android build it supports. It should also explain the required partition layout and installation method, and document whether key functions such as touch, data decryption, backup, and restore work. Without that exact-match information, there is no responsible recovery image or flashing command to recommend.
What the general installation guides do—and do not—tell you
OrangeFox’s installation guide describes general prerequisites and methods, not validated instructions for either Phone (4a) model. It says the bootloader must be unlocked; its PC-based Fastboot route requires ADB/Fastboot tools. The method varies with the device’s recovery and partition arrangement, including whether it has a dedicated recovery partition, uses A/B or Virtual A/B, or uses vendor_boot as recovery. OrangeFox also says to use the ZIP intended for the ROM and not to flash the OrangeFox ZIP through Fastboot. Those general steps do not confirm which, if any, method applies to these phones.
Because no exact-device build and procedure are verified, do not unlock the bootloader or run recovery commands on the assumption that a guide for another device will transfer. Wait for maintainer-confirmed instructions for the precise model and software build.
What happens to official Nothing updates?
Team Win’s official OTA FAQ states: “Installing official updates from your manufacturer or carrier is not supported by TWRP.” It recommends returning the device to completely stock, including replacing TWRP with stock recovery, before applying an official update. This is TWRP’s general guidance, not a Nothing-specific update procedure, and it does not establish recovery support for either Phone (4a) model.
How to assess a future recovery release
If a maintainer later publishes a build, check these details before following its instructions:
Quick Recap
- Exact device: The release must name Phone (4a) or Phone (4a) Pro specifically, or identify a confirmed matching codename and variant.
- Software compatibility: Check the supported Nothing OS/Android build and the date of the maintainer’s last update.
- Installation method: Confirm the documented partition layout, whether to boot or install the image, and the exact recovery steps for that device.
- Working functions: Look for confirmation of data decryption, touch input, backup, and restore rather than assuming they work.
- Return to stock: Find a device-specific recovery path and understand its implications for official OTA updates before making changes.
