Price difference: why no number can be stated
The two prices are quoted in different currencies, in different countries, and for different configurations. Converting £289 into rupees and subtracting it from ₹36,999 would produce a figure that reflects exchange rates, local taxes, retailer offers and stock, not the price of either phone. Treat the two listings as separate reference points.

Nothing Phone (3a): UK reference price
Nothing’s UK product page lists the 8GB+128GB model at £289. That is a manufacturer price for the UK market only.
REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G: India reference price
Xiaomi’s India listing shows the phone from ₹36,999 with an 8GB+128GB configuration. That is a manufacturer price for India only, and “from” indicates a starting point rather than a fixed price for every configuration.
How to compare prices in the same market
- Choose one country where you will buy, and confirm both phones are sold there through the official brand site or an authorised retailer.
- Match memory and storage exactly. Compare 8GB+128GB with 8GB+128GB, not a starting price with a higher tier.
- Add any launch offers, bank discounts or trade-in terms shown at checkout, and compare the final amount paid.
- Check stock and warranty terms in that market, since the same model can carry different warranties by country.
Camera: telephoto against a stronger main sensor
The camera difference is the clearest hardware contrast. The Nothing Phone (3a) gives you a dedicated 2x optical telephoto lens, which is useful for portraits and tighter framing without digital cropping. The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G does not list a telephoto lens in its cited specifications, but it does list OIS on its 50MP main camera, which helps stabilise low-light and video capture.

These are listed hardware features only. Neither source offers a comparative image test, so the specifications do not show which camera produces better photos in real conditions.
Battery and charging
The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G lists a 9000mAh typical battery and 67W charging. The Nothing Phone (3a) lists 5000mAh and 50W. On paper, Xiaomi offers far more capacity and faster charging.
Capacity alone does not determine how long a phone lasts. Screen size, chip efficiency, network conditions and software all affect runtime, and the manufacturer’s “typical” figure is not a guaranteed result. Treat the battery difference as a strong signal for longevity, not as a measured runtime.

Display
Both phones use AMOLED panels. Nothing lists a 6.77-inch flexible AMOLED screen, while Xiaomi lists a flat AMOLED of 17.34cm, which is roughly 6.8 inches. The only refresh-rate figure in the cited sources is Xiaomi’s “up to 120Hz”, and Nothing’s cited specifications do not state a refresh rate or resolution, so a like-for-like refresh comparison is not possible from these pages.
Processor and storage
The Nothing Phone (3a) uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G uses the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4. These are different chip platforms, and the specification pages do not include benchmark results, so no performance winner can be named from the listings.
Storage tier also matters. Xiaomi’s 128GB variant uses UFS 2.2 and the 256GB variant uses UFS 3.1. Nothing’s cited specifications do not state the storage standard, so storage speed cannot be compared directly.
Software updates
Nothing’s UK product page states six years of updates for the Phone (3a) series, counted from when the device first became available. That page does not separate operating-system upgrades from security patches. The Xiaomi specifications cited here do not state an update period, so buyers who care about long support should check Xiaomi’s India support policy before purchase.
