Is Norton antivirus worth it? The independent lab results supplied here are strong for specific Norton 360 versions on Windows, but they do not establish performance across every Norton plan or device. Norton AntiVirus Plus is the more focused choice for foundational scam and malware protection; Norton 360 adds features such as a VPN and dark-web monitoring, with exact inclusions and device limits varying by plan and market. The best fit depends on which extras you will use and the renewal price—not just an introductory offer.
What does “Norton Antivirus” include?
The name can refer either to Norton AntiVirus Plus, a subscription focused on foundational scam and malware protection, or to the broader Norton 360 family. Norton describes 360 as adding privacy-oriented features such as Secure VPN and Dark Web Monitoring. Its plans have different feature bundles and device allowances, so a feature associated with Norton 360 should not be assumed to come with AntiVirus Plus or every 360 tier. | Test record | Norton version and scope | Protection | Performance | Usability |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AV-TEST manufacturer history, August 2026 | Norton 360 versions 26.6 and 26.7 | 6/6 | 6/6 | 6/6 |

AV-TEST says it evaluated 16 home-user security products using default settings during May and June 2026. Its maximum across the three categories is 18 points, and products scoring 17.5 or higher receive its “TOP PRODUCT” award. Norton’s listed 6/6/6 results reach that lab threshold, but a lab score is not a promise of complete protection or identical results on other devices, settings, or future versions. Which Norton plan fits your needs?
| Plan family | Best suited to | What is established | Check before purchase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Norton AntiVirus Plus | Someone seeking core scam and malware protection without choosing a broader bundle solely for extras | Norton describes it as foundational scam and malware protection. | Included devices, supported operating systems, and any additional features in the specific market. |
| Norton 360 | Someone who wants core protection alongside privacy or other bundled tools | Norton says 360 adds features such as Secure VPN and Dark Web Monitoring beyond AntiVirus Plus. | Which 360 tier includes each feature, device count, and whether backup, parental controls, or identity-oriented services are included in your region. |
Norton’s plan lineup and feature allocation can change, and geographic editions may differ. Use the official plan comparison to verify the exact tier rather than relying on a general description of “Norton 360.” A secondary Tom’s Guide review describes Norton 360 Standard as including malware protection, a VPN, Dark Web Monitoring, and cloud backup, and cites February 2026 AV-TEST results; that description is specific to its reviewed lineup and should not be treated as a universal bundle definition. How much does Norton cost, and what happens after a trial?
A stable current checkout price for all Norton plans is not established here, so there is no reliable single figure to quote. Norton’s U.S. pages say a trial requires a payment method and that the subscription is charged when the trial ends unless it is canceled first. Norton also says annual subscribers will receive an email with the renewal price beforehand. Offers, renewal amounts, and trial availability vary by plan, time, and geography; check the checkout page for the country where you will subscribe.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBefore paying, compare the first-term price with the renewal price and confirm the billing period and number of covered devices. A discounted first term does not by itself show whether a plan is good value over time. For U.S. subscribers, start with the current Norton product and checkout pages, and read the displayed trial and renewal terms before entering payment details.

Is Norton worth it?
Norton 360 is a credible option if you want a security suite and value the extras included in the specific tier you are considering: the cited AV-TEST results are strong for Norton 360 on Windows, and Norton’s bundles add tools beyond basic malware protection. AntiVirus Plus may be the more straightforward fit if your priority is foundational protection and the 360 extras would go unused. The evidence here does not establish a hands-on verdict, a comparable lab result for AntiVirus Plus, or performance across non-Windows platforms; choose based on the exact plan, supported devices, and renewal terms rather than treating the lab score as a guarantee.
