Valve lists Normal Golf Game as Verified, but that compatibility rating is not a guarantee that every player will avoid crashes. The official guidance does not identify a confirmed Normal Golf Game crash bug or a single fix guaranteed to resolve one.
Before troubleshooting: note what is crashing
Pay attention to whether Normal Golf Game closes back to the library, the whole Deck restarts, or the failure happens at the same point each time. Those are different symptoms; recording which one occurs can help Steam Support investigate. The title alone is not enough to diagnose the cause.
Valve’s Steam Deck Verified category means a game is considered to work well on Deck by default. It provides useful compatibility context, not a promise that an individual installation or session cannot fail. The Normal Golf Game Steam listing also says the game runs well on Steam Deck.
Try these seven fixes in order
1. Install SteamOS updates and restart
- Press the Steam button and open Settings > System > Software Updates.
- Install any available update, then restart from Steam > Power > Restart.
- Launch Normal Golf Game again and see whether the crash recurs.

2. Temporarily disable third-party Deck apps
If you installed extra applications through Desktop Mode, exit or disable them temporarily, restart the Deck, and test the game again. This helps rule out possible software interference; it does not mean a particular app is known to cause Normal Golf Game crashes.
3. Verify the game files
- Open Normal Golf Game in your Steam Library and select its gear icon or open its context menu.
- Choose Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to finish, then relaunch the game.

4. Test a different Proton version
- Open the game’s Properties from the Library.
- Select Compatibility and enable the option to force a specific Steam Play compatibility tool.
- Choose the latest Proton version available, launch the game, and check whether the problem changes.
- If it does not help, return to the original compatibility setting.
Steam suggests trying the latest version for a problematic Steam app. Because Normal Golf Game is already marked Verified, treat this as a reversible diagnostic test—not a known game-specific fix.
5. Lower graphics settings
Reduce the graphics preset or individual settings in the game and test again. The game’s Steam listing specifically notes that 1080p resolution and low grass density make a big difference for slower computers. That is performance guidance, not evidence that a graphics change will cure a crash. Valve also recommends lowering graphics settings to reduce system load in its troubleshooting guide.

6. Clear Steam’s download cache if the game will not start
- Open Steam > Settings > Downloads.
- Select Clear Download Cache and confirm.
- Sign in to Steam again, then try launching Normal Golf Game.
Steam says clearing the download cache does not affect installed games, but you will need to sign in again. This step is most relevant when the game will not download or start; Steam’s instructions do not present it as a general remedy for every crash during play. 7. Contact Steam Support if crashes persist
If the earlier checks do not help, contact Steam Support and check Steam Deck discussions for reports that match your symptoms. Include whether only the game closes or the entire Deck restarts, and whether the failure occurs at a repeatable point. These details can help support investigate without assuming a cause.
