ExpressVPN may suit people who prioritize a straightforward interface and a strong record of privacy and security disclosures. Neither is the right choice for everyone: compare the plan you would actually buy, its renewal price and the features you need.
How do NordVPN and ExpressVPN compare?
The clearest difference is not a universal performance gap but the balance of price, plan features, device limits and usability. PCWorld’s September 2026 US comparison found both services worked with the streaming platforms it tested. It selected NordVPN overall, while calling attention to ExpressVPN’s usability and transparency record.

The prices and test results in this table are figures reported by PCWorld in its September 10, 2026 comparison. The prices are a US snapshot, not a guaranteed current offer or a price for every market. The audit counts are PCWorld’s reported figures, not a like-for-like measure of privacy. Check the checkout total, currency, taxes, renewal amount and plan terms for your location before paying.

It depends on how long you keep the subscription. In PCWorld’s US snapshot, the Basic monthly price was the same for both services. NordVPN was less expensive for the first year, while ExpressVPN’s reported two-year introductory total and annual renewal were lower. These are different billing periods, so compare the amount charged now as well as what the plan renews for—not just a monthly equivalent in an offer.

Introductory offers, renewal terms and plan bundles can change by region and over time. The reported annual renewal amounts are especially important if you expect to keep the service after the initial term. Confirm the recurring charge shown at checkout and whether your chosen term renews automatically.
What do the plans include?
NordVPN’s cited Basic plan comparison includes ten simultaneous connections. Its broader feature set includes Meshnet, Double VPN and Onion Over VPN; some additional security features are tied to higher tiers. ExpressVPN’s Basic, Advanced and Pro plans list ten, twelve and fourteen simultaneous connections, respectively. Higher ExpressVPN tiers add features such as password management and a dedicated IP.

- 【AC1200 Dual-band Wireless Router】Simultaneous dual-band with wireless speed up to 300 Mbps (2.4GHz) + 867 Mbps (5GHz). 2.4GHz band can handles some simple tasks like emails or web browsing while bandwidth intensive tasks such as gaming or 4K video streaming can be handled by the 5GHz band.*Speed tests are conducted on a local network. Real-world speeds may differ depending on your network configuration.*
- 【Easy Setup】Please refer to the User Manual and the Unboxing & Setup video guide on Amazon for detailed setup instructions and methods for connecting to the Internet.
- 【Pocket-friendly】Lightweight design(145g) which designed for your next trip or adventure. Alongside its portable, compact design makes it easy to take with you on the go.

Those features are not interchangeable, and an entry-level price does not represent the cost of a higher tier. Check which features are included in the specific plan and whether they are supported on your devices. If you need a feature only offered in an upper tier, compare that tier’s full billing and renewal cost rather than Basic prices.

Which is better for privacy?
Both providers have independent audit histories, but audit counts alone cannot establish that a service is perfectly private or prove that it cannot log information. The scope, date and findings of each audit matter. PCWorld reported six independent no-logs audits for NordVPN and more than 20 independent security and privacy audits for ExpressVPN, with the latter covering different areas. Those counts should not be read as equivalent tests or a simple ranking.

PCWorld also describes both services as using RAM-only servers and says ExpressVPN’s TrustedServer system reloads its software stack when a server reboots. These are useful pieces of a provider’s security design, not guarantees of anonymity. A VPN routes traffic through the provider and can change the network information visible to other parties; it does not make a user unidentifiable or protect against every threat, such as account tracking or unsafe behavior on a device.
Which one is faster?
In PCWorld’s reported test, NordVPN retained 75% of baseline download speed and 81% of baseline upload speed; ExpressVPN retained 70% and 80%, respectively. PCWorld described the difference as slight. These percentages are that publication’s test results, not speeds every subscriber should expect.

VPN performance depends on factors including your location, the route to the VPN server, the server selected, protocol, device and underlying internet connection. TechRadar’s 2026 review reported different measurements under its own test setup, another reason not to combine results from separate reviewers into one definitive ranking. If speed matters most, test the service from your own location during the return period and with the apps and server locations you plan to use.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Which is better for streaming?
PCWorld reports that both services accessed the streaming platforms it tested. That is evidence about those services and tests—not a promise that every platform, title or regional catalog will always be available. Streaming services can change how they detect VPN traffic, and access may also be subject to their terms. Do not buy either VPN on the assumption that it guarantees access to a particular show or catalog.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
Which is easier to use, and does a router matter?
PCWorld highlights ExpressVPN for a simple interface, making it a reasonable option if ease of navigation is a priority. It also points to ExpressVPN’s Aircove Wi-Fi router and Aircove Go travel router as physical options for network-level VPN coverage, including devices that may not support a VPN app. VPN functionality on these routers requires an active ExpressVPN subscription; the router does not include streaming subscriptions. A router is an optional way to extend coverage, not a substitute for the service itself.
Quick Recap
Which VPN should you choose?
- Choose NordVPN if: PCWorld’s overall recommendation and its small test-speed lead matter to you, or you want features such as Meshnet, Double VPN or Onion Over VPN. Compare the introductory charge with the reported Basic renewal before committing.
- Choose ExpressVPN if: you value the straightforward interface PCWorld highlights, want to consider its broader reported audit history, or need a plan with a higher simultaneous-device limit. Verify the selected tier’s cost and renewal, not just its Basic offer.
- Choose neither on headline claims alone if: you need a specific streaming catalog, a guaranteed speed or complete anonymity. The cited comparisons do not establish any of those outcomes for every user.
