Nintendo Switch offers TV, tabletop, and handheld play. There is not yet enough comparable testing to say which version performs better. At the time of the latest official information, the iPhone release had not launched, and Hello Games and Apple listed different expected dates.
No Man’s Sky on iPhone vs. Switch: what’s different?
The biggest established differences are device requirements, supported features, and how you can play—not measured speed or image quality. Hello Games describes the iPhone release as the full game, including “over forty major updates,” but says iOS multiplayer is not supported. Nintendo lists the Switch version for one player on one system, with TV, tabletop, and handheld modes.

Does No Man’s Sky on iPhone have multiplayer?
No. Hello Games says multiplayer is not supported in the iOS version. The developer calls it the full game, but that does not mean every platform feature is included. If playing with other people is central to your choice, the iPhone edition’s stated limitation matters more than its “full game” description.

Can my iPhone run No Man’s Sky?
Hello Games says the game is playable on iPhone 11 and later, while Apple’s listing specifies iOS 26 or later and an A12 Bionic chip or later. The App Store’s compatibility list includes iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, and iPhone 11 models, among additional devices. Because those descriptions do not align perfectly, check your exact model and current iOS version against the live App Store listing before relying on general model guidance. The announcement also names third-generation iPad Air and later, although this comparison focuses on iPhone.
The App Store listing presents a free way to try the beginning and a one-time purchase to unlock the full game. It lists the download at 3.8 GB; allow additional room for system needs or later updates, and check the current listing for the purchase price.

What features does the iPhone version include?
Hello Games says the iPhone release includes the full game and more than forty major updates. It also says touch controls have been rebuilt for mobile, with on-planet and flight controls and support for first- and third-person views, vehicles, and mechs. These are the developer’s descriptions; they do not establish how comfortable or precise the controls feel in play.

Planetary Settlements have a newer-device limit
Hello Games says Planetary Settlements are supported on iPhone 15 Pro and above. That qualification applies even though the broader game is described as playable on earlier iPhone models. If settlements are important to you, verify that your phone meets the more specific requirement.

How does No Man’s Sky run on Switch—and how does it compare?
Nintendo’s listing confirms TV, tabletop, and handheld modes, with one player on a single system. It also warns that the play experience may differ on Switch Lite. Nintendo Switch Online is required for Save Data Cloud backup.
There is no sound basis yet for a performance winner between iPhone and Switch. The official information cited here does not provide matched frame-rate, resolution, loading-time, heat, or battery measurements, and the iPhone edition had not launched when the cited announcements were checked. A useful comparison would need testing on named iPhone and Switch hardware, with software versions and settings stated. Until then, claims that one runs faster, looks sharper, loads sooner, or lasts longer on battery are unverified.

Which version should you choose?
- Choose iPhone if you want to play on a compatible phone, prefer touch controls, and do not need multiplayer. Check the specific device requirement and confirm the live release and price in the App Store.
- Choose Switch if you want the listed TV, tabletop, and handheld modes or want to play before the iPhone release. Remember that cloud-save backup requires Nintendo Switch Online.
- Wait for post-release testing if performance is your deciding factor. No comparable evidence here establishes an advantage in frame rate, image quality, loading, heat, or battery life.
Keep the original Switch edition separate from the Switch 2 Edition: Hello Games announced the Switch 2 release in 2025. The modes, file size, and other Switch details above refer to Nintendo’s original Switch listing, not a performance comparison with Switch 2.
Release date: Hello Games and Apple differ by one day
Hello Games’ October 12, 2026 announcement gives October 28, 2026 as the planned iPhone release date; Apple’s App Store listing says “Expected Oct 29, 2026.” These primary sources conflict by one day. Check the live App Store listing for current availability rather than treating either expected date as confirmation that the game has launched.
