Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Nintendo Switch error code 2110-1100 usually points to an online connection or authentication path failing—most often a DNS/routing problem, an unstable Wi‑Fi session, or a router/firewall configuration that blocks the console from reaching Nintendo servers.

This guide is written to be bookmark-worthy: you’ll get multiple fixes that target the real failure points, with exact Nintendo Switch menu paths and concrete settings you can apply. Work through them in order; the DNS method is the most reliable.

  • DNS issues (your router or ISP returns incorrect/blocked address records).
  • Routing/NAT problems (UDP/TCP paths or NAT rules prevent the connection from working).
  • Router firewall or security features (content filtering, strict NAT, blocked ports, or toggled UPnP).
  • Temporary service instability on Nintendo’s side.

Because the code is network-related, local fixes (Switch network settings + router behavior) usually solve it without needing to reinstall games or reset the console.

Before you change anything: quick checks (5–10 minutes)

Do these first. They’re fast and prevent you from applying fixes that won’t help.

  1. Check Nintendo service status (Nintendo has an official status page for services). If services show maintenance/outage, wait and retry later.
  2. Run a basic connection test on the Switch: System Settings → Internet → Test Connection.
  3. Confirm your Wi‑Fi password by reconnecting once (sometimes key updates or forgotten characters cause repeated auth failures).
  4. Avoid VPN/proxy on your router or phone hotspot. Many “helpful” network filters break Nintendo’s traffic.

If Test Connection fails or succeeds inconsistently, proceed with the fixes below.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 1: Fully power-cycle your Switch and network gear

This clears stuck network sessions that often trigger 2110-1100, especially after sleep mode or modem/router restarts.

  1. Power off the Switch: hold the power button → select Power Options → Power Off.
  2. Unplug the modem/router from power.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug in the modem first, wait for it to fully come online (stable internet light).
  5. Plug in the router second, wait 2–3 minutes.
  6. Turn the Switch back on and retry the action that triggered the error.

If the error persists, go to Fix 2.

Fix 2: Refresh your internet connection on the Switch

If you’re on Wi‑Fi, your current connection might look “connected” but still fail DNS or routing checks.

  1. On the Switch: System Settings → Internet → Set Up Internet Connection.
  2. Select your Wi‑Fi network.
  3. If it shows a saved profile, choose Change Settings (or re-run setup) and confirm everything is correct.
  4. After saving, open Test Connection again.

If Test Connection fails, don’t keep retrying. Move to Fix 3 and Fix 4.

Fix 3: Remove and re-add your Wi‑Fi network

This forces the Switch to rebuild its network configuration instead of reusing corrupted session data.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. System Settings → Internet.
  2. Select Your Wi‑Fi network (the one currently failing).
  3. Choose Delete (or Forget / remove the saved settings, depending on your firmware UI).
  4. Re-run Set Up Internet Connection.
  5. Enter your Wi‑Fi password carefully (watch for wrong capitalization or layout).
  6. Finish setup and run Test Connection.

If the error returns after the Switch “connects,” DNS is the next best lever.

Fix 4: Set DNS manually (most consistent fix)

For error 2110-1100, manual DNS fixes the majority of cases because it bypasses broken or filtered DNS responses from routers/ISPs.

You’ll set DNS to one of the public resolvers. Use IPv4 DNS settings (typical default on Switch).

  1. System Settings → Internet → Set Up Internet Connection.
  2. Select Wi‑Fi and choose your network.
  3. When prompted for settings, select Advanced Settings.
  4. Set DNS Settings to Manual.
  5. Enter one of the DNS pairs below (pick one):
DNS Provider Primary DNS Secondary DNS
Google 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 1.0.0.1
Quad9 9.9.9.9 149.112.112.112
  1. Keep IP Address Settings as Automatic unless you know you need manual IPs.
  2. Save changes, then run Test Connection.
  3. Retry the feature that triggered 2110-1100 (e.g., game online, eShop, update).

If you get a specific DNS error or Test Connection still fails, switch DNS providers and re-test. If both fail, Fix 5 and Fix 6 help narrow down whether it’s router/firewall vs. ISP routing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 5: Fix router-side issues (NAT, UPnP, firewall, bands)

When DNS is correct but the connection still fails, it’s often NAT/firewall behavior blocking Nintendo’s traffic.

Enable UPnP (or verify it’s not disabled)

UPnP helps devices open required connections automatically. Router UIs vary, but the setting usually lives under Advanced or NAT.

  1. Log into your router admin page.
  2. Find UPnP and ensure it’s Enabled.
  3. Save changes and reboot router (unplug/replug) for safety.

Check NAT type and security features

If your router offers strict NAT, “Game Mode,” or enhanced security filters, try temporarily loosening those for the console.

  1. Look for features like SPI Firewall, DoS protection, Traffic filtering, or Parental controls.
  2. Confirm nothing is blocking the Switch IP/MAC address.
  3. If you can, prioritize gaming devices or put the Switch into an “allowed” list.

Switch Wi‑Fi band (2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz)

Some routers handle 2.4 GHz differently than 5 GHz (especially with band steering). If you have dual-band Wi‑Fi:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Try joining the 2.4 GHz SSID instead of 5 GHz.
  2. Or do the opposite if 2.4 GHz is unstable in your area.
  3. After connecting, run Test Connection again.

Disable VPN or ad-blocking DNS on the router

If you use router-level “secure DNS,” Pi-hole, NextDNS, or VPN profiles, they can break Nintendo resolution/handshake flows.

  1. Temporarily disable the router’s custom DNS or filtering.
  2. Or whitelist the Switch device in that system.
  3. Re-test after the change.

Fix 6: Test with a different network (or hotspot)

This is the fastest way to prove whether the problem is your home network.

  1. On a phone, enable Personal Hotspot (if available) or connect the Switch to a different Wi‑Fi.
  2. On the Switch: System Settings → Internet → Set Up Internet Connection → select the new network.
  3. Run Test Connection and retry the action that triggered the error.

If it works on a hotspot, the issue is almost certainly router settings, ISP routing, or DNS filtering at home—not the Switch itself.

  1. Check for updates: System Settings → System → System Update.
  2. Follow prompts and install the update.
  3. Verify your Nintendo Account is linked correctly if the error occurs when signing in or buying on eShop.

Also confirm the date/time isn’t wildly off. If you have automatic time disabled, enable it so authentication windows don’t fail.

Fix 8: Try a different game/app and clear the symptom

Sometimes the console is fine, but a specific title’s servers or authentication flow are stuck.

  1. Test online access with a different game or app.
  2. If 2110-1100 appears for only one title, check whether that title’s servers are reporting issues.
  3. If it affects everything online, focus on networking fixes (DNS/router).

Fix 9: Reset network settings (last resort before support)

If the console can’t reliably connect even after DNS + network re-add, reset only the network configuration (not the entire console storage).

  1. System Settings → System.
  2. Select Formatting Options.
  3. Choose Restore Network Settings (wording can be slightly different by firmware).
  4. Reconnect to Wi‑Fi and re-enter your settings (including manual DNS if you used it).
  5. Run Test Connection and retry the online action.

After this, you may need to reconfigure any custom DNS you previously set.

Common mistakes that keep 2110-1100 happening

  • Retrying immediately without rebooting your network gear after a failed test.
  • Forgetting VPN/ad-block DNS is enabled on the router or ISP equipment.
  • Using a captive portal network (hotel/school Wi‑Fi sometimes “connects” but blocks Nintendo traffic).
  • Entering DNS values but leaving other advanced settings inconsistent (keep IP automatic unless you intentionally manage static IPs).
  • Only switching power once (a full router+modem cycle is more effective than rebooting one device).

Troubleshooting flowchart (when Fix 4 doesn’t work)

Use this decision path to avoid wasting time.

  1. Run Test Connection after each major change.
  2. If Test Connection still fails with Google DNS (8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4), try Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1) and re-test.
  3. If DNS changes don’t help, use Fix 6: connect the Switch to a hotspot or different Wi‑Fi.
  4. If it works on hotspot, adjust router settings: enable UPnP, review firewall/security filters, and try the alternate band (2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz).
  5. If it fails on hotspot too, the issue is likely account/service-side or a console/network stack issue. Update system software and try another game/app; then proceed to Fix 9 (network reset).

When you find a combination that passes Test Connection, stop changing settings and immediately retry the original action (that’s your confirmed working fix).

When to contact Nintendo Support

Contact support if all of the following are true: DNS was changed successfully, hotspot testing still fails, system updates are current, and network reset didn’t fix it.

Also contact them if the error appears across multiple networks and multiple games/apps, which suggests a deeper console issue rather than local connectivity.

FAQs

Does error 2110-1100 mean my Switch is broken?

Usually no. 2110-1100 is far more often caused by network/DNS routing failures than by hardware damage. DNS changes and hotspot tests quickly separate console issues from connection issues.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will changing DNS affect other devices on my network?

Only if you change DNS on the router. This guide’s Fix 4 changes DNS on the Switch (device-level), so your phone/PC should keep using their current DNS settings.

What if I can’t find the option for Manual DNS?

In most Switch firmwares, Manual DNS appears under the internet setup’s advanced settings. Make sure you’re editing the specific Wi‑Fi profile (System Settings → Internet → Set Up Internet Connection) and look for Advanced Settings.

Why does Test Connection pass, but the error still appears?

That can happen when Test Connection only checks basic reachability, but the specific online action requires additional handshake paths. Try Fix 5 (UPnP/NAT/firewall adjustments) or validate with another network.

Will a factory reset fix 2110-1100?

A full factory reset is rarely the right first step. Start with Fix 4 (DNS) and Fix 9 (Restore Network Settings). Only consider a full reset if support instructs it or if other resets fail.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom Line

Error code 2110-1100 is usually a network problem, and the most consistent fix is setting manual DNS on the Nintendo Switch, then re-testing the connection. Combine that with a router check (UPnP/firewall) if DNS alone doesn’t resolve it.

If you follow Fix 4 and Fix 6 (hotspot test) and the error persists across networks, it’s time to escalate to Nintendo Support with your results.
