Some original Nintendo Switch accessories work with Nintendo Switch 2, but compatibility depends on the accessory. Original Joy-Con and Pro Controllers can connect wirelessly; the original dock cannot be reused; and ordinary microSD cards cannot store Switch 2 games. For expandable game storage, buy a microSD Express card.
Which original Switch accessories work with Switch 2?
Nintendo’s compatibility guidance distinguishes wireless connection from physical fit, charging, and use in TV mode. This table summarizes the main carryovers and exceptions.

These item-specific rules come from Nintendo’s Switch and Switch 2 compatibility chart. Wireless controller support does not mean an old controller physically fits the new console or that every game supports it.
What memory card does Switch 2 use for games?
Switch 2 accepts microSD Express cards for expandable game storage. Nintendo lists support for cards up to 2 TB; first use requires a system update with internet access. An ordinary microSD card is not an equivalent option for installing or loading Switch 2 digital games, though it can be used to load captured screenshots and videos from a Switch.

Can you use old Joy-Con and their accessories?
Original Joy-Con controllers
Original Joy-Con can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but they cannot be attached to its sides. Because they do not attach to the console, plan to charge them using an original Switch or a compatible charging accessory.

Straps, grips, and game-specific attachments
Joy-Con 2 has a different physical design, so original Joy-Con straps, grips, charging grips, wheels, leg strap, Ring-Con, AA battery pack, and two-way charging stand do not work with the new controllers. An old accessory may still work with original Joy-Con for a game that supports those controllers and the accessory; compatibility is not universal.

For storage and protection
Nintendo lists Switch 2-specific carrying cases and a screen protector. Do not assume an original Switch case will fit; look for an explicit Switch 2 fit. The Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case is designed to carry the console and TV-mode equipment, including the dock, controllers, and cables, plus up to six game cards.

For TV mode or another charging location
If you need TV mode, use a Switch 2 dock rather than the original Switch dock. Nintendo also lists a Switch 2 AC adapter, which is the appropriate replacement or second-location option if you need the new console’s power setup.
For GameChat video
Video in GameChat requires a compatible USB camera. Nintendo identifies its Switch 2 camera and compatible USB-C webcams as options, but the cited guidance does not establish universal compatibility for third-party cameras. Confirm the exact camera’s compatibility before purchasing.
