Young children can interact with Mario and other characters by poking, pulling or spinning their faces, adding familiar objects and playing peekaboo. You can use them on supported iPhone and Android devices or Nintendo Switch systems; download requires internet, but Nintendo says play does not after installation.
What do the Nintendo Hello apps do?
They offer character play rather than conventional game levels or challenges. In Hello, Mario!, a child can poke, pull and spin Mario’s face to change his expressions, then add familiar items such as Super Mushrooms, Super Stars, pipes and enemies. Peekaboo can bring Boo into the interaction.

The wider My Mario app lineup uses similar touch interactions with other characters. Nintendo illustrates pulling Mario’s moustache, taking his cap, stretching Yoshi’s tongue, hatching Yoshi, making Luigi’s eyebrows droop and brushing Peach’s hair. The activities are designed for children and caregivers to enjoy together.
Characters eventually get tired and go to sleep, temporarily pausing play. For Hello, Mario!, Nintendo says this feature can be turned off in the startup settings. It is an in-app pause, not a claim about health or developmental benefits.

Which Hello apps are available?
Availability depends on platform and region. Nintendo’s UK My Mario apps listing, checked October 7, 2026, showed the following lineup. Check your local storefront for current availability rather than assuming the UK dates apply elsewhere.

These are Nintendo UK listing details, not a guarantee of availability in another country. The listing identifies Switch downloads as compatible with Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo’s Hello, Mario! product page also says it can be played on Switch 2. Download through the official mobile or Nintendo platform store for your region.

What do you need to use Hello, Mario!?
Choose a compatible device you already have; a tablet is not required. Nintendo’s published requirements for smart devices are:
- iPhone or iPad: iOS 15 or later.
- Android phone or tablet: Android 6.0 or later, at least 2 GB of RAM, a 64-bit CPU and OpenGL ES 3.0 or later.
- Nintendo system: Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 for the console version.
- Internet: Required to download the app, but not to play after download.
Nintendo cautions that meeting the Android minimums does not ensure the app will run properly on every device. Chromebooks and devices with x86 or x86-64 processors are unsupported; some PowerVR devices may also be unsupported. Installation may be possible with 1 GB of RAM, but Nintendo says the app will not operate properly without 2 GB or more. See Nintendo’s supported-device guidance before installing.

Does Hello, Mario! work on Android?
Yes, if the phone or tablet meets Nintendo’s stated requirements: Android 6.0 or later, 2 GB or more of RAM, a 64-bit CPU and OpenGL ES 3.0 or later. That minimum does not guarantee compatibility with every Android model, and the exclusions above still apply. Check the app listing on your device’s official store as well as Nintendo’s compatibility guidance.
Can I play Hello, Mario! offline?
Yes. Nintendo says internet is needed to download Hello, Mario!, but that the app can be played without internet once downloaded. The same offline statement appears on Nintendo’s product information for the app.

Is Hello, Mario! free?
Nintendo describes Hello, Mario! as a free smart-device app and free Nintendo Switch download. The My Mario collection also includes physical products such as books, wooden blocks, apparel and toys; those are separate products, not requirements for using the app.

Nintendo’s reviewed Hello apps information does not establish a Nintendo Account or Nintendo Switch Online subscription as a requirement. Do not assume requirements for Nintendo’s separate Switch App or other online services apply to these downloads.

Mobile or Switch: which should you use?
The apps use touch interaction, so a compatible phone, tablet or Switch offers a touch screen. A mobile device is convenient if you want to use hardware you already own; Switch may suit play on its screen or, where supported, a larger shared display. Nintendo’s listing establishes platform availability, but does not establish that one platform has better gameplay. Regional storefront availability can also differ.
