If a Nimbus Screenshot capture is going to the wrong place, first confirm that Nimbus—not Firefox’s built-in screenshot tool—made it. For Nimbus files saved to your computer, enable Display Save As dialog in Nimbus settings, then take a test capture and choose the intended folder. Nimbus’s guide documents this prompt as the way to select a destination for a screenshot saved to disk.
1. Confirm which screenshot tool saved the image
Both Nimbus and Firefox can capture screenshots, but their save controls are different. Check the button or menu you used and whether the result came from Nimbus’s capture flow or Firefox’s built-in screenshot feature. Firefox’s download settings may explain a Firefox screenshot, but they do not establish how every Nimbus extension save works.

Nimbus Screen Capture lists local-file saves as well as other destinations, including Nimbus Note, Google Drive, Google Classroom, Dropbox (listed as Premium), and PDF. If you chose a cloud or document destination, the image may have been sent there rather than written to a folder on your computer. The Firefox Add-ons listing reports Nimbus version 15.6.9, last updated July 31, 2020; that is a dated listing snapshot, not confirmation of the current version or interface.
2. Make Nimbus ask where to save a local screenshot
- Open Nimbus’s settings and find Display Save As dialog. Nimbus’s settings guide documents this option; the exact location of the control may vary with the extension version.
- Turn on Display Save As dialog.
- Capture a new screenshot using Nimbus and choose the intended folder when the save prompt appears.
- Open the saved file from that folder to confirm the destination.
This documented prompt applies to screenshots saved to disk. If you instead choose Nimbus Note or another listed service, check that destination’s account or upload flow; the Save As prompt is not evidence that a cloud upload also creates a local copy.

3. If the screenshot came from Firefox
For Firefox’s built-in screenshot feature, a Mozilla Support moderator described behavior beginning with Firefox 141: screenshots are saved in the browser’s default download location. The moderator also said there was no separate screenshot setting at that time. This guidance is about Firefox’s built-in feature, not Nimbus. Read the Mozilla Support discussion (moderator reply dated July 24, 2025).
- In Firefox, open Settings > General > Downloads.
- Check the configured download folder, or enable Always ask you where to save files if you want to choose a location when saving.
- Make a fresh screenshot and verify where Firefox puts it. The same support discussion includes reports of inconsistent results, so test the behavior in your own Firefox version rather than assuming the setting changed every screenshot flow.
The cited discussion includes preference-level suggestions, but mixed outcomes and the lack of a universal configuration make hidden preferences a poor first fix. Avoid changing about:config settings unless you have current, version-specific instructions for your Firefox version and operating system.

4. Diagnose the save route
| Save route | Who controls the destination? | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Nimbus extension, saved to disk | Nimbus save flow | Enable Display Save As dialog and select a folder in a new test capture. |
| Nimbus Note, Google Drive, Google Classroom, Dropbox, or PDF destination | The selected service or document flow | Confirm that you chose a local-file save if you expect a file in a computer folder. |
| Firefox built-in screenshot | Firefox download controls, according to the guidance for Firefox 141 | Check Settings > General > Downloads and test the default-folder or “Always ask” behavior. |
The available guidance does not establish one default-folder rule for every browser, operating system, and Nimbus version. Identify the tool and save destination before changing settings.
5. Troubleshooting if the file still goes elsewhere
- No folder prompt appears for a Nimbus disk save: Reopen Nimbus settings and confirm Display Save As dialog is enabled, then test with a new Nimbus capture.
- The capture appears in a cloud service but not in your folder: Check whether the Nimbus action selected was an upload or document destination rather than a local save.
- A Firefox screenshot uses the wrong folder: Check Firefox’s download folder and “Always ask” control, then test again. Record your Firefox version because the cited behavior is specifically described for Firefox 141 onward.
- Labels or behavior do not match these steps: Check the version of Nimbus and Firefox you are using. The Nimbus listing cited above is dated, and the Mozilla guidance is a support discussion rather than a formal current product manual.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is to capture a web page programmatically rather than fix Nimbus’s extension save flow, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API. One GET request returns an image or PDF. Its API can remove cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed; and its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots.
