The Nikon Z7 launched in the U.S. at a suggested retail price of $3,399.95 for the body alone in 2018; the kit with the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens was $3,999.95. Those are historical launch prices, not today’s cost. In U.S. used listings observed in 2026, B&H Photo Video showed individual Z7 bodies at $949.95 and $989.95. Treat those as seller-specific examples, not a market average or a guaranteed current price.
What does a Nikon Z7 cost?
Price depends on whether you are looking at the original launch SRP, a used body, or a package that includes a lens. The following examples are snapshots, not a universal valuation; condition, shutter count, included accessories, warranty, returns, tax, shipping, and stock can all change the effective cost.

Nikon’s 2018 release cautioned that “Actual prices are set by dealers and are subject to change at any time.” The launch SRPs therefore provide historical context, not a present-day asking price. The U.S. and UK listing examples should also remain separate: they reflect different currencies and local markets, not directly comparable prices.
Is a used Nikon Z7 worth considering?
The Z7 is an FX-format, full-frame mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera with 45.7 effective megapixels and a Nikon Z mount. Nikon lists a 493-point hybrid autofocus system, full-frame 4K UHD video, and up to approximately 9 frames per second in a specified extended high-speed mode; the frame rate depends on shooting mode and file type. Its five-axis in-body sensor-shift vibration reduction is subject to Nikon’s test conditions and is not a guarantee of the same result with every lens or in every shooting situation. See Nikon’s Z7 specifications for the model details and qualifications.
#1 Best Overall
- Every little detail matters. 45.7MP. Powerful AF performance. NIKKOR Z lenses. Intuitive functionality. The most sophisticated tool for high resolution imaging.
- Subject acquisition with speed and precision. 3.3x more buffer capacity than the original Z 7. Faster continuous shooting. Improved AF performance and functionality.
- Dual card slots (CFexpress/XQD and UHS-II SD). Flexibility and peace of mind when shooting important moments or on assignment, such as wedding and event photography. Comfortable. Durable. Intuitive. Z 7II’s exterior and interior have been thoughtfully designed to be handled and used with max comfort and ease of operation.
- Vertical Grip Ready. Now compatible with the new vertical battery grip for those in need of more power and easier shutter operation when shooting vertically. 4K UHD 60p video. Smoother action, smoother camera motion and the ability to slow down 4K UHD footage in post. USB-C constant power and charging. Never run low on power during livestreams, video shoots and timelapses.
- One mount accepts them all. Compatible with a growing line of NIKKOR Z lenses as well as approx. 360 F-mount NIKKOR lenses with FTZ mount adapter (sold separately).
Those features make the camera’s capability relevant when weighing a used listing, but they do not establish that any particular unit is a bargain. The available asking prices are individual examples; they do not establish a representative average of completed sales across marketplaces and conditions. Decide whether a price works for you by checking the exact item and its terms.
How to assess a specific listing
- Confirm the model. Check that the listing is for the original Z7, not the later Z7II. Nikon’s product page observed in 2026 showed $2,699.95 against $3,099.95 for the Z7II body, a separate model and price reference—not a current Z7 price. See Nikon’s Z7II page.
- Read the condition details. Look beyond the grade label for disclosed shutter count, wear, damage, and any functional issues. A condition grade is the seller’s assessment, not a substitute for the individual listing details.
- Check warranty and return terms. The two B&H examples stated a 90-day warranty, but coverage and return conditions should be verified on the live listing before purchase.
- Compare what is included. Establish whether the price covers only the body or also a lens, battery, charger, body cap, strap, memory card, or adapter. The 2018 kit price included the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S; a body-only listing is not an equivalent package.
- Calculate delivered cost. Add shipping, tax, and any import or return-shipping costs that apply to your location. These can change which listing is less expensive in practice.
- Use local-market comparisons. Compare listings in the same country and currency where possible. The UK examples of £784 and £817 are not U.S. benchmarks.
Body-only versus kit: what changes?
The original U.S. launch SRP for the body was $3,399.95, while the body-and-lens kit was $3,999.95—a $600 difference at launch. That comparison describes Nikon’s 2018 suggested prices only. When considering a current used offer, check that the lens is actually included and identify its condition; do not compare the price of a body alone with a kit as if both were the same purchase.
Rank #2
- New larger Z mount for revolutionary optical performance
- Nikon-designed 45.7MP backside Illuminated image sensor with no optical low pass filter (OLPF)
- 493-Point on-sensor phase detect AF system and up to 9 fps
- 4K ultra-HD video; 8K time-lapse; 120/1080P slow motion
Lens compatibility and system fit
The Z7 accepts NIKKOR Z-mount lenses. F-mount NIKKOR lenses can also be used with a mount adapter, although some functions may be restricted depending on the lens and setup. If you already own F-mount lenses, include the adapter and compatibility considerations in your budget; if the listing includes a Z lens, factor that lens into the package comparison.

What the available prices do—and do not—tell you
The dated figures offer useful reference points: Nikon’s launch SRPs show the original positioning, while the retailer and comparison-site examples show particular asking prices observed in 2026. They do not establish a global current price, an average completed-sale value, or a guaranteed fair price for a specific camera. Listings can change or disappear, so verify price, stock, condition, inclusions, warranty, and return policy with the seller before deciding.
