The Nikon Z 50 is a DX-format mirrorless camera built around Nikon’s Z mount. Nikon’s published specifications list a 23.5 × 15.7 mm CMOS sensor, 4K UHD recording at up to 30 fps, and Full HD options up to 120 fps. Those specifications make it possible to assess its format, listed video modes, and lens options—but they do not establish real-world image quality, autofocus performance, or current value. This review is therefore a guide to what Nikon documents and what a buyer should verify before choosing a body or kit.
What the Nikon Z 50 offers on paper
Nikon identifies the Z 50 as a DX-format mirrorless camera with a 23.5 × 15.7 mm CMOS sensor and Nikon Z mount. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Nikon’s product information describes the camera and sensor format.

Nikon’s U.S. specifications list 4K UHD recording at 3,840 × 2,160 pixels and 24, 25, or 30 frames per second. Full HD modes are listed up to 120 or 100 fps. These mode listings tell you what recording options Nikon specifies; they do not establish image quality, autofocus behavior while recording, or the suitability of the footage for a particular workflow. See Nikon USA’s Z 50 specifications for the regional details.
Nikon’s launch release described the body as weighing 14 ounces and included Eye-Detection AF among its claims. Treat these as launch-era manufacturer statements, not independent measurements or a guarantee of comparative performance today. The release does not provide a publication date in the available listing. Nikon’s launch announcement is the source for those claims.

Which lenses can the Z 50 use?
Nikon Z lenses
The Z 50 uses Nikon’s Z mount. Nikon’s online manual includes material for the Z DX 16–50mm VR and Z DX 50–250mm VR lenses, both DX-format options named for use with the camera. The manual is useful for checking camera-specific operation and settings: Nikon Z 50 online manual.
Nikon’s U.S. overview gives the full lens names as Z DX 16–50mm f/3.5–6.3 VR and Z DX 50–250mm f/4.5–6.3 VR. The documentation establishes these lens options, but it does not provide image samples or comparative test results. If you are choosing between a body and a kit, confirm exactly which lens is included in the seller’s listing; kit contents can vary by bundle and region.

F-mount NIKKOR lenses
Nikon says F-mount NIKKOR lenses can be used with a mount adapter, but notes that restrictions apply. Do not assume every F-mount lens and adapter combination will support every camera function. Check Nikon’s compatibility information for the exact lens and adapter before buying or relying on a particular feature; Nikon’s overview is available at Nikon USA.
What this evidence can—and cannot—say about buying
The documented specifications are a starting point if you want a DX mirrorless camera with the Nikon Z mount and the listed video modes. They are not enough to conclude how well the Z 50 focuses on moving subjects, how its images compare with another camera, or whether its footage meets your production needs. No independent image samples or hands-on performance results are established here, so those judgments require testing or trustworthy reviews that evaluate the specific use you care about.

Current price, stock, used condition, and kit availability are also not established. Compare the actual body or bundle offered in your region, confirm the included lens and accessories, and weigh the cost of any additional lenses or F-mount adapter you need. A value recommendation would require current local pricing and a defined alternative for comparison.
