Nex Playground offers a settings lock and the ability to hide individual games, but Nex does not document a broader set of traditional parental controls such as screen-time limits or child profiles. Nex says its camera processes movement on the device rather than uploading video to the cloud; the company also says it collects limited technical device data and, after setup, asks whether to continue analytics collection. Here’s what parents can review and how to act on each setting.
Which parental controls does Nex Playground offer?
Nex describes a limited set of controls, not a full parental-control system. Parents can lock access to settings and hide a game they do not want a child to play. Nex’s safety page does not provide a button-by-button path for hiding a game, so check the current device interface or contact Nex support for the exact steps.

The official materials reviewed here do not document child profiles, screen-time limits, app approvals, content-rating filters, or purchase-lock controls. Nex says the device has no browser, chat or messaging, or third-party apps. Games can be played offline after download; Wi-Fi is used to download games and updates. These statements do not establish that every account, subscription, or device-management function works offline. See Nex’s safety and privacy page.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteLock the settings menu with Family Tools
Nex’s Family Tools parental lock uses a four-directional-button security pattern sent by email. An adult can use that pattern to lock and unlock the settings menus. To request a new pattern, Nex documents the path Family Tools > Security Pattern > Change. Keep access to the email account and pattern with the adult responsible for the device. Nex’s instructions do not describe this as a child profile or a way to set time limits.

Review the data-collection prompt during setup
Nex’s general software privacy policy, revised April 2026 (v4.0), distinguishes technical data it says it collects from first boot from analytics collected after setup. The policy says a persistent device identifier and device vitals, including firmware-error telemetry, are sent to Mixpanel and Memfault for internal analytics, support, and diagnostics. After setup and account sign-in, Nex says it presents a data-collection consent prompt.

According to the policy, declining consent stops further analytics events from being transmitted and deletes pre-consent analytics data associated with the device. Nex says device analytics are not combined with its website, ecommerce, or Play Pass subscription data; persistent identifiers are not used to profile children, track them across unrelated services, or serve behavioral ads. These are statements in the company’s policy, not independent audit findings. Read the Nex Privacy Policy for Nex Software (General).

Nex says the built-in camera tracks body movement on the Playground itself and does not upload interaction images or video to the cloud. The company says an indicator light glows when the camera is active, and a magnetic camera privacy cover is included with the device. You can use the cover when you want to block the camera physically.

There is an important qualification: Nex says some games may temporarily record video locally for replay or highlights, and that those clips are not saved. That is different from saying the camera never processes or temporarily buffers image data. Nex’s description is that video is not uploaded to the cloud or otherwise collected by the company through the Playground. The motion-tracking help article describes 18 tracked body nodes; that is a product specification, not an independent study result. Details appear in Nex’s Privacy and security and motion-tracking help article.
Request access, deletion, or withdrawal of consent
Nex says parents can ask to review or delete a child’s information, or withdraw consent, by contacting [email protected]. Its policy also lists [email protected] for data-rights matters. Nex says withdrawing consent stops analytics collection and deletes pre-consent data associated with that device. The policy describes COPPA provisions for the United States and separately addresses EU and UK consent; its US-specific age and consent language should not be assumed to apply worldwide.
