New Laptop Has No Screen, Just Augmented Reality Glasses: What Spacetop Actually Is

Sightful’s screenless-laptop idea uses AR glasses as the display. Here is what the original Spacetop G1 was, how the current Windows product works, and what compatibility and pricing mean.

The “screenless laptop” is Sightful’s Spacetop concept: you still use a physical keyboard and computer, but the workspace appears in augmented-reality glasses instead of on a built-in panel. The device described in 2024 was the Spacetop G1; Sightful’s current offering is different software that runs on a compatible Windows laptop and currently works with XREAL One Pro glasses.

What “no screen” means

Spacetop does not eliminate the computer or keyboard. It replaces the laptop’s conventional display with a glasses-based virtual workspace. The wearer looks through AR glasses and sees application windows positioned in front of them, while the laptop supplies the processor, memory, ports and keyboard.

That arrangement can make a small physical computer feel like it has several large monitors, but the workspace is private to the wearer and depends on wearing the glasses. It is not the same as projecting an image that everyone nearby can see.

The 2024 Spacetop G1 and today’s product are not the same thing

Item What the cited source describes How to interpret it
Spacetop G1 Futurism reported on June 10, 2024 that the screenless computer used a custom Android version and cost $1,900 at that time. Historical reporting, not a current specification or price.
Spacetop for Windows Sightful’s current product page describes software running on an existing compatible Windows laptop, with XREAL One Pro glasses providing the visual workspace. A current software-and-hardware arrangement, subject to Sightful’s live requirements and availability.

Do not treat the $1,900 G1 figure as the price of the current Windows product. They are different packages, and the current plan uses a recurring software charge plus separate glasses hardware.

With the optional XREAL Eye, full 6DoF spatial anchoring. It delivers high processing power, seamless compatibility with devices, and distortion-free visuals through advanced stabilization.
  • The New Optic Engine-X-Prism Optics: XREAL’s advanced lens and projection system—ultra-slim, precision-engineered optics that project a large, sharp virtual screen right in front of your eyes, while still letting you see your real surroundings clearly. With a best-in-class 57° FOV, Optic Engine 4.0 recreates the feeling of watching a massive 171-inch screen from four meters away—all in lightweight, compact design. Its advanced anti-glare design minimizes reflections and light interference, enhancing clarity and immersion.
  • Experience True AR with 6 DoF, Spatial Anchor Anytime: Pairing with XREAL Eye, anchor your screen anywhere in your room, so it stays perfectly fixed in place—even as you walk around, lean in, or change your position. • REAL 3D – Turn everything you watch into an immersive 3D experience: REAL 3D Now Available on All One Series Glasses, instantly transforming all your content—from games and movies to apps and photos—into true 3D with a single switch. Experience richer depth and lifelike visuals across everything you watch or play.
  • 57°FOV, 171'' Spatial Screen – More Immersive Visual Experience: Experience a virtual screen starting at 171 inches wide, filling your view with blockbuster visuals, thanks to XREAL’s advanced optics and industry-leading 57° FOV. Powered by Sony’s 0.55' Micro-OLED display technology and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, get swept into your games or movies with immersion that rivals traditional home theaters—without the size, setup, or space concerns.

How the current Spacetop setup works

  1. Start with a supported Windows laptop. Sightful says the computer must run Windows 11 version 24H2 or later, include at least 16 GB of RAM and provide USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt 3/4.
  2. Check the processor list. Sightful lists supported Intel Core i7/i9 and Core Ultra families. Confirm the exact model on the live compatibility page before purchasing, because a port that looks like USB-C is not automatically suitable for video output.
  3. Install Spacetop for Windows. The software runs on top of the existing Windows operating system rather than replacing it with a dedicated laptop operating system.
  4. Connect the glasses. Sightful currently says Spacetop works only with XREAL One Pro glasses. The company says wider glasses support is planned, but that is a future intention rather than a present compatibility guarantee.
  5. Use the virtual multi-window workspace. Windows applications continue to run on the laptop while their visual output is presented through the glasses.

Current glasses specifications

Sightful lists these figures for the compatible XREAL glasses:

  • 1920×1080 pixels per eye
  • 57-degree diagonal field of view
  • 39 pixels per degree
  • Up to 600 nits brightness
  • 87 grams

These are manufacturer-stated specifications, not independent measurements of clarity, brightness or comfort. A numerical resolution figure also does not establish how readable small text will be for a particular wearer.

What it costs

Component Listed amount Qualification
Standard Spacetop software $54 per seat per month Sightful pricing page accessed September 28, 2026; billed annually and requires a five-seat minimum.
XREAL glasses hardware $699 one time Sightful’s listed hardware charge; package terms and availability can change.
Enterprise plan Custom pricing Listed by Sightful without a public fixed rate.

A single-user buyer should pay particular attention to the five-seat minimum: the advertised monthly amount is not a one-seat monthly checkout price. Recheck Sightful’s pricing page before committing, and budget for both the annual software obligation and the glasses.

Practical advantages and compromises

Why someone might want it

  • Portable large workspace: the virtual environment can provide multiple windows without carrying a physical monitor.
  • Privacy: the display is directed to the wearer rather than exposed on a public laptop panel.
  • Less desk hardware: travel can involve a laptop and glasses instead of a laptop plus external screens.
  • Windows compatibility: the current product is designed to run Windows applications on the user’s existing computer.

What the concept gives up

  • Glasses dependence: remove the glasses and the main workspace disappears.
  • Comfort and legibility uncertainty: the reviewed sources do not provide independent long-session testing, prescription-lens experience or fatigue measurements.
  • Compatibility limits: the current glasses requirement is XREAL One Pro only, and the laptop must meet specific Windows, memory, processor and video-output requirements.
  • Social practicality: a glasses-based display can be private, but it may be awkward in meetings, travel or situations where you need normal eye contact and awareness.
  • Cost structure: the current offer combines recurring software billing with a separate hardware purchase rather than a conventional all-in-one laptop price.

Questions to answer before buying

  • Does your exact laptop run Windows 11 24H2 or later and meet Sightful’s processor and 16 GB RAM requirements?
  • Does its USB-C port support DisplayPort Alt Mode, or does it have Thunderbolt 3/4?
  • Are you comfortable doing all screen-based work through glasses for the periods you expect?
  • Do your applications, accessibility tools and display preferences work acceptably in a virtual multi-window environment?
  • Does the five-seat annual software minimum make financial sense for your use case?
  • Are you buying the glasses for Spacetop specifically? Sightful’s compatibility statement means purchasing XREAL One Pro alone does not reproduce the complete Spacetop experience.

Operating-system roadmap

Sightful says Mac support is not currently available and places it on a 2026 development roadmap. A roadmap is not a delivery date, so Mac users should confirm availability directly with Sightful rather than buying on the assumption that support has shipped.

Why early commentary was cautious

Futurism attributed a warning about the original concept to Emily Wang, identified there as a VITURE mixed-reality-glasses co-founder, through Laptop Mag. Wang said, “The concept of an AR laptop is certainly an interesting idea, but I foresee issues in its implementation, especially as it is/if it is Android based,” and added, “For many, what they get may not outweigh what they sacrifice to get it.” Those comments addressed the reported Android-based G1 concept; they should not be presented as an independent test of the current Windows software.

Bottom line for readers

Spacetop is best understood as a glasses-based display system, not a laptop that literally has no computer screen hardware. The original G1 story is historical. The current product requires a qualifying Windows laptop, XREAL One Pro glasses and a paid Spacetop software plan, with Sightful’s published prices and compatibility rules subject to change. It is worth considering if private, portable virtual monitors solve a real problem for you; it is a poor fit if you need a conventional display, broad glasses compatibility or a simple one-time laptop purchase.
