Snapchat’s AI Lenses can transform or create photos and videos, but “new AI Snapchat filter” does not identify one specific Lens. Snap has described a real-time transformation prototype, an open-prompt image Lens, and separate generative video Lenses; they are distinct experiences announced at different times, with different ways to use them and different stated access restrictions.
What is Snapchat’s AI filter?
Snap generally calls these effects AI Lenses. Depending on the Lens, it may apply an effect to a live camera view, create or edit an image from a text prompt, or generate a video. The title alone does not say which Lens a person has seen, and Snap’s announcements do not establish that one particular “new” filter is available to every account.

In June 2024, Snap introduced an early real-time image-model prototype for augmented reality. The company described its purpose as turning a typed transformation idea into a vivid AR experience. Snap said: “This early prototype makes it possible to type in an idea for a transformation and generate vivid AR experiences in real time.” That announcement described a prototype, not proof that the same feature is now a generally available Lens. Snap’s launch information should not be taken as confirmation that a Lens remains in the catalog or that the same subscription rules still apply. How do I find an AI Lens on Snapchat?
Snapchat Support lists three ways an AI Lens may be unlocked: scan its Snapcode, open a deep link, or search in Lens Explorer. Which option works depends on having the Lens’s code or link, or being able to find it in the app’s catalog. Snapchat Support: Generative AI on Snapchat
Find the Imagine Lens
In its September 2025 launch instructions, Snap said to look for Imagine near the front of the Lens Carousel or in the Exclusive category. Select it, edit the caption prompt or keep a preloaded prompt, and create the Snap. These are the instructions for that named Lens at launch; current placement and eligibility may differ.

Use a generative video Lens
For the initial Raccoon, Fox, and Spring Flowers video Lenses, Snap’s launch directions were to select a Lens and capture with either the front- or rear-facing camera. Snap said the video generates while the user can continue messaging or capturing, and that the completed video saves to Memories automatically.
Why the Lens may not appear
Snap’s named Imagine and initial video Lenses were announced with subscription restrictions. Because those announcements are dated, check the current Lens listing and your account’s in-app eligibility rather than assuming a particular tier or catalog placement still applies. The general support discovery methods do not identify which Lens the phrase “new AI Snapchat filter” refers to, so they cannot establish whether a particular account or location has access.

Snap reported that more than 400 million Snapchatters had engaged with Gen AI Lenses more than 4 billion times by its September 5, 2025 Imagine Lens announcement. Generated results may change your appearance
Snapchat Support warns: “Do not assume generative AI outputs are true or depict real events.” Snap also says generated images may not accurately represent a person or preserve important attributes; its example is that someone who usually wears a headscarf could be depicted without one. Avoid treating an output as a faithful likeness or documentary image.

AI labels are not guaranteed on every image
Snap says it may indicate generative AI with a sparkle icon, disclaimer, Context Card, or tool tip. Some AI-generated images shared on Snapchat may have a Context Card, and some images saved or exported to Camera Roll may carry a Snap Ghost with sparkles watermark. Snap explicitly says not every generated image has a Context Card or watermark, and images created with non-Snap products may not be labeled.

Prompts, images, and public content
Snap says generative features use the text and images a user provides to produce the requested output. Separately, it may use content posted publicly on Snapchat—including Spotlight, Public Stories, and Snap Map posts—to develop, train, and improve generative content models, potentially with automated and human review. Snapchat Support says users can opt out of future use of their public content for model development through Settings → Privacy Control → Manage My Information. The opt-out does not undo training already completed, and other processing may continue under Snap’s privacy documentation.

- Do not enter sensitive or private information into a generative feature.
- Do not use another person’s image for generative imagery without permission.
- If a result concerns you, many generative features include a flag or three-dot control for reporting it.
For Lens creators, Snap’s separate Generative Lens Tools Terms, effective June 12, 2024, apply to listed generative tools in or connected with Lens Studio. Those terms address prompts and generated assets under Lens Studio terms, licenses and model-improvement use, and restrict generated assets to Lens Studio use. AI Lenses for advertisers
Snap has also described Sponsored AI Lenses as an advertising format, naming Uber, Tinder, and Coldplay examples. This is a brand campaign use of Lenses, not a consumer referral or affiliate program. In an April 8, 2025 announcement, Snap cited its internal July 2024 data claiming ad placements at the forefront of the Camera received 25–45% more impressions in a single day. That is a company-reported advertising claim, not a guaranteed campaign result. The same announcement said campaigns for Uber and Tinder had higher-than-average playtimes between November 1, 2024 and January 2025, but did not provide a numeric uplift. It also reported that more than 300 million Snapchatters engaged with AR experiences in the Lens Carousel on an average day in Q2 2024; that figure is Snap internal data for that period.
