No universal monthly fee is documented for simply using every NETGEAR router. Charges may apply if you subscribe to optional NETGEAR services such as Armor or Smart Parental Controls Premium. Your internet plan and any rented equipment charge are separate fees set by your internet service provider (ISP).
Separate the router from the services and internet plan
A NETGEAR router is hardware; it does not make your internet service free. Your ISP may charge for internet access and, if you rent equipment from it, for that equipment. NETGEAR can separately charge for particular optional services that work with compatible devices.

- Router: The device itself. NETGEAR’s terms say it offers certain products and services on a subscription basis, but that is not a statement that every router requires a subscription. NETGEAR terms and conditions.
- NETGEAR services: Optional features such as security protection or expanded parental controls may have a trial and then a subscription price.
- ISP charges: Internet access and any rented modem or router are billed by your provider, not by NETGEAR. Check your own bill for the amounts and terms.

What can you use without paying for Premium parental controls?
NETGEAR’s Smart Parental Controls comparison lists a free tier that lets you pause internet access across devices and assign devices to children. The paid Premium tier adds the monitoring, filtering, scheduling, and time-management features listed above. The comparison was last updated July 7, 2025, so check the service page for current availability and terms.

Check whether the service works with your router
Compatibility and availability depend on the router model and country. Before starting a trial or planning around a feature, confirm that the exact model supports it and that the service is offered where you live. NETGEAR’s compatibility information is available through its services page; consult the support information for your specific device as well.

The documentation also says Circle Go and supporting services were discontinued on December 31, 2020. Treat these details as legacy or model-specific, not as proof that Circle is currently available for every NETGEAR router; verify support for your exact device before relying on it. How to find out what you will actually pay
- Identify the charge. Check whether it is for internet service, rented equipment, or a NETGEAR subscription. The biller and line-item description should help distinguish them.
- Check the router model and location. Confirm the service is available for that device and in your country before assuming a trial or feature applies.
- Verify the current price and billing frequency. For Armor, NETGEAR directs customers to the Orbi or Nighthawk app because regional prices and promotions vary. For any service, confirm whether the displayed amount is charged monthly or billed annually.
- Review trial and renewal terms. A free trial does not mean the service stays free. Check when billing begins and how to cancel in the app or account before the trial ends.
- Ask your ISP about its charges. NETGEAR does not set the price of your internet plan or your provider’s equipment-rental fee. Confirm those items directly with your provider.
