A neocloud is a cloud provider focused on GPU compute and AI or high-performance workloads rather than a broad range of general-purpose enterprise applications. It may suit an organization that needs specialized GPU capacity, but the label is not a certification: performance, security, reliability, data location, and value must be verified for the provider and workload in question.
What is a neocloud?
Microsoft for Startups defines a neocloud as “a cloud provider built specifically for GPU compute and AI workloads rather than general-purpose enterprise applications.” In practice, these providers emphasize GPU clusters, AI-oriented networking, and direct access to accelerator capacity. Some offer bare-metal machines, where customers manage more of the software and operations stack themselves. Microsoft for Startups explains the category and infrastructure model.

“Neocloud” is a market term, not a standardized certification or guarantee. It does not by itself establish a service’s speed, uptime, compliance, sovereignty, or suitability for a particular model. Those claims require provider-specific evidence.

When does an enterprise need a neocloud?
Neoclouds are positioned for AI model training, fine-tuning, inference, and other high-performance workloads. The potential fit is strongest when an organization has a defined need for GPU capacity and can verify that the provider has the right hardware, software environment, network, and available capacity for that job.

- Training and fine-tuning: GPU clusters may support compute-intensive model work when the required capacity and software stack are available.
- Inference: A GPU-focused service may support model-serving workloads, but latency, throughput, availability, and integration need to be assessed against the application’s requirements.
- High-performance workloads: The category also includes compute-intensive work beyond generative AI; evaluate the actual workload rather than relying on a provider’s broad positioning.
NVIDIA’s partner directory describes Lambda as offering infrastructure for training, fine-tuning, and inference, including on-premises systems, hosted GPU options, and managed inference. It describes Nebius as offering AI infrastructure for training, fine-tuning, and inference at scale, and presents Crusoe and GMI Cloud as AI infrastructure providers. These are vendor ecosystem descriptions, not independent performance comparisons. See NVIDIA’s AI cloud infrastructure partner directory.
How is a neocloud different from AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud?
The main distinction is focus. A general-purpose hyperscaler offers a broad platform of managed services and enterprise integrations. A neocloud concentrates more narrowly on GPU capacity and AI infrastructure. This can be useful if accelerated compute is the priority, but it may mean the customer must supply or integrate more of the surrounding platform.

| Consideration | Neocloud-focused provider | General-purpose hyperscaler |
|---|---|---|
| Primary emphasis | GPU compute and AI or high-performance workloads | Broad cloud platform for varied enterprise workloads |
| Surrounding managed services | May be narrower; verify what is included | Typically broader, with more managed services and enterprise integration |
| Operational responsibility | Can be higher with bare-metal access; confirm who manages each layer | Depends on service, but a wider set of managed options may be available |
| Performance and capacity evidence | Must be established for the specific provider, hardware, region, and workload | Must likewise be established for the chosen service and workload |
These are category-level tendencies, not guarantees for every provider or product. A practical architecture may use a GPU-focused cloud for bursty training while keeping application services, identity, data systems, monitoring, or customer-facing inference in an environment already integrated with the enterprise. If both environments are public clouds, Microsoft describes this as a possible multi-cloud pattern; hybrid cloud instead combines public resources with private infrastructure. Neither pattern is automatically preferable. Microsoft’s guide discusses these deployment distinctions.

Compare the service against a representative workload, then assess the capacity, surrounding services, and operational effort needed to run it. A quoted GPU-hour rate alone does not show the total cost or whether the service can meet production requirements.

- User-friendly Design: Ergonomic design makes the open frame av rack easier to use. The additional top panel is able to place other items with more available space. Roller design moves anywhere and anytime, is convenient, and is more energy-saving.
- Complete Accessories: We provide the accessories you need, including 2 x Pallets, 145 x M5*10 Cross Head Screws, 4 x Casters, 4 x M10*50 Expansion Screws,10 x M6*12 Cage Nuts, 1 x Grounding Wire, 1 x User Manual.
- Wide Application: The server rack wall mount maximizes the use of available space, suitable for retail venues, classrooms, offices, and other places where space is limited.
- Define the workload and acceptance criteria. Specify the model and software stack, training or inference pattern, throughput or latency target, and any data-handling constraints. Ask for evidence relevant to those criteria rather than relying on general performance claims.
- Confirm the actual capacity terms. Check GPU type, region, availability, reservation versus on-demand access, lead times, and the remedy if capacity is delayed or unavailable. NVIDIA’s May 18, 2025 DGX Cloud Lepton announcement described participating providers offering on-demand and longer-term compute in specific regions; that announcement is historical and does not establish present capacity. Read NVIDIA’s May 2025 announcement.
- Calculate total cost and operating effort. Include storage, networking, data transfer, orchestration, monitoring, security, engineering time, utilization, and failure recovery in addition to accelerator charges.
- Map service boundaries and integration. Establish which party manages scheduling, drivers, node failures, data movement, network configuration, storage performance, monitoring, and security patching. Bare-metal access may transfer these responsibilities to the customer.
- Verify security, compliance, and sovereignty. Request provider-specific evidence and contractual commitments covering data location, operations, governance, access controls, and the applicable compliance requirements. A provider’s category or marketplace listing is not proof of compliance.
- Review resilience and exit terms. Examine service-level commitments, support coverage, incident handling, reservation terms, data portability and movement costs, and how quickly the workload can shift to another environment.
Microsoft notes that bare-metal customers may take on scheduling, node failures, data movement, storage performance, network configuration, drivers, monitoring, utilization, and security patching. These tasks can make a lower GPU-hour price more expensive once engineering and adjacent services are counted. Microsoft’s infrastructure overview outlines these responsibilities.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should we rent GPUs or run them on-premises?
There is no universal answer in the available provider and category information. Renting can be worth evaluating when a workload needs access to specialized capacity without making that capacity part of the organization’s own infrastructure. On-premises deployment may fit a different set of operational and governance requirements, but a decision requires workload-specific cost, capacity, staffing, and infrastructure analysis; category-level material does not establish that either option is cheaper or better.

What do market forecasts say about neocloud growth?
Market forecasts indicate expectations for substantial growth, but they are not evidence of realized market share, guaranteed provider success, or a purchasing recommendation.
| Forecast | Attribution and qualification |
|---|---|
| Neocloud providers to capture 20% of a $267 billion AI cloud market by 2030 | Gartner forecast in a June 23, 2026 press release; forecast, not realized share. Gartner’s June 2026 release |
| More than $25 billion in 2025, approaching $400 billion by 2031, at nearly 58% compound annual growth | Synergy Research Group figures as reported by Microsoft for Startups; the figures are secondary attribution, not a direct review of Synergy’s publication. Microsoft for Startups’ guide |
The estimates use different market definitions and forecast horizons, so they should not be combined into a single growth rate or compared as if they measured the same market on the same basis.
What should enterprises verify before committing?
- A workload-relevant performance demonstration or other evidence, using the intended software stack and acceptance criteria.
- Current GPU availability, region, reservation terms, and the provider’s response if committed capacity is unavailable.
- Responsibility for the operational layers around the GPU, including monitoring, patching, security, data movement, and recovery.
- Current contractual commitments for uptime, support, incident handling, data location, compliance, and exit rights.
- A cost model that includes storage, networking, transfer, engineering, utilization, and failure recovery—not just the accelerator rate.
- A workable plan for moving data and workloads to another provider or environment if requirements change.
For example, NVIDIA’s May 2025 DGX Cloud Lepton announcement named CoreWeave, Crusoe, Firmus, Foxconn, GMI Cloud, Lambda, Nebius, Nscale, SoftBank Corp., and Yotta Data Services as NVIDIA Cloud Partners expected to offer GPU capacity through the marketplace. That dated announcement describes a historical marketplace initiative, not a live inventory or assurance of current access. NVIDIA’s announcement provides the dated provider list.
The infrastructure decision also includes software. NVIDIA AI Enterprise is described in NVIDIA documentation as a software platform spanning application development and infrastructure management, including GPU orchestration and partitioning. It is one example of the software layer that may sit around GPU infrastructure, not a substitute for checking a provider’s service boundaries or contractual commitments. NVIDIA AI Enterprise documentation was last updated August 10, 2026.
