Need Talk and Text Without Much Data? Compare Three Low-Data Plans

These three plans include small data allowances rather than zero data. Compare their calling limits, prices, payment schedules, and network considerations.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you want a phone mainly for calls and texts, the current options reviewed here are low-data plans—not true no-data plans. US Mobile’s 2GB plan is the strongest fit for unlimited calling and texting; Tello’s $8 option costs less but limits calls to 300 minutes; Ultra Mobile includes just 500MB but requires three months’ payment upfront. Confirm current terms and coverage before signing up.

Are any of these plans truly talk-and-text only?

No strict zero-data plan is established by the current comparison. Each of the three shortlisted options includes cellular data: 2GB with US Mobile and Tello, and 500MB with Ultra Mobile. They may suit people who stay on Wi-Fi most of the time or use a feature phone, but they are not no-data plans.

Plan availability and terms can change. Check the carrier’s current plan builder and service terms before purchase if having no cellular data is essential. The reviewed T-Mobile Prepaid Starter Monthly offer is not a match: at the checked terms, it includes 15GB of high-speed data along with unlimited talk and text.

Prices and features above are those listed in WhistleOut’s guide, updated August 27, 2026; they are not guarantees of current availability. US Mobile’s taxes-and-fees detail, network access, hotspot, and transfer fee are also reported by WhistleOut. For Ultra Mobile, $13 is a monthly equivalent, not a month-to-month payment amount.

Which plan fits your calling habits?

Choose US Mobile if you want unlimited calls and texts

At the listed $10 per month, the 2GB By the Gig option pairs unlimited talk and text with a small data allowance. WhistleOut names it a top pick and describes the By the Gig plans as an option for customers who do not need much data. Network choice is conditional: access to three major networks is reported only in select areas and for compatible devices, and the comparison reports a $2 fee for a network transfer.

Choose Tello if 300 call minutes are enough

The listed $8 plan is the least expensive of the three, but it includes 300 minutes rather than unlimited calling. That limit matters more than the headline price if you make frequent or long calls. WhistleOut reports Tello uses T-Mobile’s network; its staff writer’s favorable statement about coverage and reliability is an opinion based on a month of use, not a measured guarantee for your address.

Choose Ultra Mobile if you value its international calling allowance

What to check before you switch

  1. Confirm the total cost and billing schedule. Check whether taxes and fees are included, whether a displayed price depends on AutoPay, and whether payment is monthly or prepaid for multiple months. For example, the reviewed Ultra Mobile price requires three months in advance.
  2. Match the voice allowance to your use. Unlimited talk and a 300-minute allowance are materially different, even when both plans offer unlimited texts.
  3. Ask what happens when the data allowance is used. The comparison establishes the included data amounts but does not establish what each carrier does after the allowance is exhausted. Check the current plan terms for any speed reduction, extra charges, or other limits.
  4. Check coverage where you actually use your phone. Use the carrier’s coverage checker for home, work, school, and regular travel locations. National coverage language is not a promise of service at a specific address.
  5. Verify your phone and any extras. Check device compatibility before switching, especially if considering a feature phone. Confirm whether hotspot, international calling, and roaming work on the specific plan and device you intend to use.
  6. Understand the cost of changing plans or networks. Plan changes and network transfers may have different rules; WhistleOut reports a $2 fee for US Mobile network transfers.

How current are the listed prices?

WhistleOut’s comparison page was reported as updated August 27, 2026, and says it tested seven plans and carriers. Its rankings and testing statements are the publisher’s own, not regulatory findings. US Mobile’s carrier-authored August 2026 plan comparison says pricing and features were checked against carrier plan pages on September 10, 2026. T-Mobile’s official prepaid page lists Starter Monthly at $40 for one line with AutoPay, 15GB of high-speed data, and unlimited talk and text; it also notes taxes and fees and an initial-month price condition, so the advertised amount should not be treated as a universal total.
