It may reduce the need to open a separate canvas for image-led concept exploration, but it is not a like-for-like replacement for design production, a personal knowledge base, or every team whiteboard workflow.
What Adobe tool is similar to FigJam or a whiteboard?
Adobe calls it Firefly Boards: an infinite visual workspace for mood boards, storyboards, vision boards, and other early-stage concepts. Adobe describes it as a place to collect and generate visual material, explore directions, collaborate, and present ideas. You can upload images and sketches, search stock imagery, and generate assets on the same canvas. Adobe also describes ways to continue editing through Photoshop on the web or Adobe Express.

That makes Boards a plausible answer to the question, “Does Adobe have something similar to FigJam or the Whiteboard in Canva?” The key distinction is its generative-first, image-led focus. Adobe’s product descriptions are not an independent comparison or a guarantee that every workflow in those tools is covered.

Is Firefly Boards free?
Adobe’s mood-board page says the maker can be used for free with an Adobe account and mentions free daily generations. The more specific access limits are in Adobe Help’s Firefly Boards overview, last updated February 2, 2026:

So “free” means there is a way to try Boards, not that every feature or generation is unlimited. Check the current terms for your region and subscription before planning a project around a particular model or volume of AI use; Adobe’s plan entitlements can change.
Which tool fits the work you need to do?
The products overlap as visual canvases, but their vendors describe different centers of gravity. This comparison reflects those descriptions, not hands-on testing or a ranking.

When is Firefly Boards a sensible alternative?
Choose it when the central job is visual exploration: assembling references, sketching a direction, generating candidate imagery, or sharing a concept board. Its strongest distinction in Adobe’s description is the combination of a visual canvas with generative features and routes into Adobe editing tools.
Recommended Free Tools
Keep a different tool in the workflow when its core job matters more than the overlap. A product or website design process points toward Figma; organizing notes and media within an Obsidian vault points toward Canvas; and a facilitated team whiteboard points toward Miro. There is no basis in the available product descriptions for claiming that Boards is categorically better or that it can replace all three.

What to check before moving a project
- Confirm your Adobe plan’s board allowance and premium-feature access.
- Check generative-credit requirements before relying on image or video generation.
- Decide whether the board is mainly a visual exploration space or whether you also need design production, linked personal notes, or live workshop tools.
- Try the actual handoff you need—such as continuing edits in Photoshop on the web or Adobe Express—before moving an established workflow.
Adobe’s Firefly page also features a testimonial from Michael Meurer, Global Design Lead, describing Firefly as a tool for play, exploration, and innovation. That is Adobe’s attributed testimonial, not independent evidence of performance.
