They also say that mode assignments are based on Overall Performance tier, often referred to as plate color, and that players start at Casual. 2K describes the matchmaking as skill-tiered. In practical terms, the hub is meant to introduce players to City competition gradually, rather than place every new player directly into the same kind of matchup.

What do you need to play?
You need NBA 2K27 and access to The City with a MyPLAYER. 2K announced the game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2; availability of The City and its features can depend on the supported game version and platform. 2K’s launch announcement lists those platforms.
Casual Corner is a location within The City rather than a separately selected main-menu mode. 2K has also described limited-time events in which Casual Corner games could count toward 2XREP rewards, but that was event-specific and should not be taken as a standing reward. Check the current in-game event information for any active bonus.
