NBA 2K25 is scheduled to stop being available for purchase on October 30, 2026. 2K says the game will be discontinued on December 31, 2026; from January 1, 2027, its online modes and multiplayer will no longer be accessible. Existing owners can still redownload the game and play supported offline modes, but MyCAREER and MyTEAM will end with online services.
When will NBA 2K25 leave Steam and other stores?
2K Support says NBA 2K25 will no longer be available for purchase beginning October 30, 2026. The Steam listing gives the same date for its own store. 2K’s notice does not identify every store or platform covered by the cutoff, so Steam is the only storefront independently confirmed here.

There are two dates to distinguish: 2K says the game is discontinued as of December 31, 2026, while the online features specified in its notice become unavailable starting January 1, 2027. The 2K Support notice was published September 3, 2026 and updated October 2; the dates are the current official schedule, not a guarantee that a retirement date cannot change. 2K’s online-services status page, updated September 14, also says retirement dates may be extended or brought forward.
What happens if you already own the game?
2K says owners will still be able to redownload NBA 2K25 and play offline modes after the purchase cutoff and server sunset. The game does not simply become unplayable for everyone on January 1, 2027. However, modes and features that rely on 2K’s online services will not continue to work.

Modes and features that end
- MyCAREER and MyTEAM: 2K lists these among the online modes that will no longer be available.
- Multiplayer and online modes: 2K says players will no longer be able to play multiplayer games or access online game modes starting January 1, 2027.
- Virtual Currency: Players will no longer be able to earn VC once online services end.
- Server-dependent features: Online Leagues and community sharing will not work, even where a broader mode remains available offline.
Modes 2K lists as remaining
2K names Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA as modes that will remain available offline. That does not mean every online-dependent feature within or around those modes will survive; Online Leagues and community sharing are specifically identified as unavailable.
Should you get NBA 2K25 before the cutoff?
The right choice depends on what you want from this edition. If you want to play NBA 2K25’s MyCAREER or MyTEAM, the cutoff for buying it is not the only date that matters: those modes will become unavailable when online services end. If your priority is the offline modes 2K lists, existing owners will retain access to them, subject to the server-dependent feature limits.

2K announced NBA 2K27 as the newer installment, available worldwide September 4, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. Its release does not establish that it replaces NBA 2K25 mode for mode. Compare the platform edition you can obtain with the specific NBA 2K25 content you want; regional availability and feature equivalence are not established by the announcement. Why is 2K ending NBA 2K25’s online services?
2K’s status page gives a general explanation for retiring online services: as players move to newer releases, continuing to operate services for both newer and legacy games can become commercially unfeasible. That is 2K’s general retirement policy, not a separately stated, title-specific explanation for NBA 2K25.
