Namecheap may appeal if its shared-hosting tier fits your needs at the renewal price, while Name.com offers shared hosting alongside separate managed WordPress and DigitalOcean-powered cloud options. Compare the plan limits and the cost for the billing period you actually expect to keep—not just an introductory monthly figure. The available provider pages do not establish a performance winner through independent testing.
How to choose between Name.com and Namecheap
Start with the kind of hosting you need, then compare the actual plan limits and full-term cost. A small single-site project has different requirements from a portfolio of client sites, and shared hosting is not interchangeable with managed WordPress or cloud hosting.

- For one small site: Compare the entry plans’ storage, email, backup coverage, and renewal cost.
- For multiple sites: Check each tier’s stated website and storage limits. Treat labels such as “unlimited” and “unmetered” as plan terms, not a promise of infinite capacity.
- For managed WordPress or cloud hosting: Name.com lists these as distinct options. Compare them with the equivalent Namecheap product rather than with a basic shared plan.
What the shared-hosting plans include
The providers’ tiers do not align one to one. Name.com lists website, disk, database, and email allowances; Namecheap’s shared plans distinguish among site count, SSD storage, mailboxes, and backup coverage. Match the plan to the requirements of your site instead of comparing tier names alone.
| Plan | Websites | Storage | Databases | Backup details | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Name.com Personal | 1 | 10 GB disk | 10 MySQL databases | 100 accounts | Name.com advertises free automated backups for shared hosting; plan-specific restore-point details are not stated on the cited plan summary. |
| Name.com Premium | 25 | 100 GB disk | 50 | Unlimited | Name.com advertises free automated backups for shared hosting; plan-specific restore-point details are not stated on the cited plan summary. |
| Name.com Business | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | Name.com advertises free automated backups for shared hosting; plan-specific restore-point details are not stated on the cited plan summary. |

These are provider-listed plan terms, not guarantees that a site can use unlimited resources without restrictions. Check the applicable terms and current checkout details before buying. Name.com describes cPanel shared hosting, managed WordPress, and cloud hosting powered by DigitalOcean; Namecheap describes cPanel shared hosting with one-click CMS support and also sells other hosting formats.
Compare prices by billing period and renewal
The prices below are advertised provider terms, not a like-for-like quote for every checkout configuration. Name.com’s listed sale prices apply only to the first billing cycle, and its plan page shows annual billing. Namecheap’s figures below are renewal amounts from a notice updated May 8, 2026, applying to invoices on or after May 19, 2026—not introductory prices.
| Provider and plan | Advertised price | Renewal price | Billing qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name.com Personal | $6/month sale; $7/month regular | Not separately stated on the cited page | Annual billing; sale applies only to the first billing cycle. Name.com plan page accessed October 7, 2026. |
| Name.com Premium | $8/month sale; $11/month regular | Not separately stated on the cited page | Annual billing; sale applies only to the first billing cycle. Name.com plan page accessed October 7, 2026. |
| Name.com Business | $13/month sale; $18/month regular | Not separately stated on the cited page | Annual billing; sale applies only to the first billing cycle. Name.com plan page accessed October 7, 2026. |
| Namecheap Stellar | Not stated in the cited renewal notice | $5.88 monthly; $55.88 yearly; $102.88 for two years | Renewal pricing in Namecheap’s notice updated May 8, 2026; applies to invoices on or after May 19, 2026. |
| Namecheap Stellar Plus | Not stated in the cited renewal notice | $7.88 monthly; $85.44 yearly; $146.44 for two years | Renewal pricing in Namecheap’s notice updated May 8, 2026; applies to invoices on or after May 19, 2026. |
| Namecheap Stellar Business | Not stated in the cited renewal notice | $11.88 monthly; $128.88 yearly; $251.88 for two years | Renewal pricing in Namecheap’s notice updated May 8, 2026; applies to invoices on or after May 19, 2026. |
For Name.com, verify the renewal amount at checkout: the available plan summary states regular annual prices and that the sale is limited to the first billing cycle, but does not separately identify a renewal figure. Namecheap’s renewal notice provides different totals by plan and billing period. Compare the amount you would pay over your intended term, not a monthly promotional equivalent against another provider’s renewal charge.

Backups, uptime, and what the claims establish
Name.com advertises free automated backups on its shared-hosting page. Namecheap identifies AutoBackup for Stellar Plus and Stellar Business, and describes daily, weekly, and monthly restore points. Do not assume that every tier has the same backup coverage; confirm which restore points and recovery options apply to your chosen plan.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Name.com advertises a 99.9% uptime guarantee, while Namecheap advertises a 100% uptime guarantee on its shared-hosting page. These are provider guarantees, not observed uptime measurements, and the percentages alone do not show that Namecheap is more reliable. Review each provider’s guarantee terms and exclusions. The provider pages available for this comparison also do not establish which host is faster or better performing in independent side-by-side testing.

Choose based on a small, single-site requirement
For one modest site, compare Name.com Personal with Namecheap Stellar against your needed storage, mailbox count, and backup requirements. Decide using the billing period and renewal amount you can verify, not just the first-cycle price.
Choose based on hosting several sites
Name.com Personal allows one site and Premium allows 25; Namecheap Stellar lists three. Higher tiers list unlimited websites at both providers, but the associated storage terms differ. Check the plan’s terms and resource limits before relying on an “unlimited” or “unmetered” label.

Choose based on hosting format
If you want managed WordPress or cloud infrastructure, Name.com lists those as options separate from shared hosting. Compare the relevant product with Namecheap’s corresponding hosting format and requirements; the shared-plan prices and limits above do not settle that comparison.

What to verify before checkout
- Confirm the billing period and total due today, including whether a displayed monthly price is charged upfront for a longer term.
- Find the renewal amount and determine how many billing cycles the promotional price covers.
- Check website, storage, database, and email limits against your real requirements.
- Confirm whether backups are included in the exact tier and what restore-point schedule or recovery terms apply.
- Review refund eligibility and the terms and exclusions of any uptime guarantee. Name.com states that all plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee; confirm current eligibility and terms before relying on it.
