Nabsun is an open-source desktop browser with an AI assistant designed to work in the tabs and signed-in sessions you already have open. It can read pages and, with approval by default, take browser actions such as clicking, typing, and navigating. That is the creator’s description of the design—not an independently verified guarantee that every task or website will work reliably.
What Nabsun is—and what “real tabs” means
Nabsun is a Chromium- and Electron-based browser created by Naveen Alavilli. Its assistant is built into the browser, so it can use the context of open pages and existing sessions rather than requiring you to copy information into a separate chat or start a separate browser automation session. The creator’s rationale is to keep page context, browser actions, and approval controls together in one application. Nabsun also includes conventional browser features—tabs, bookmarks, history, downloads, session restore, and encrypted saved passwords. Its README describes an MCP server through which an external agent can use browser tools against existing tabs under the same approval settings as the sidebar.
What the assistant can do
The creator describes tools for reading pages and interacting with them, including clicking, typing, selecting options, scrolling, and navigating. Suggested workflows include summarizing documentation, comparing options across tabs and linking findings, extracting a table into structured records, researching across documentation pages, or preparing a form and stopping before submission. These are examples of intended use, not a promise that every model will complete each workflow or that every site will cooperate. For developers, the creator says Nabsun builds an accessibility-derived page outline and assigns opaque references to interactive elements. The browser bridge is described as rejecting stale references or changed element identities rather than silently targeting a different element. The creator also notes limited iframe and shadow-root coverage. These are implementation descriptions from the project creator, not results from independent testing.

Permissions, privacy, and safety
According to the creator, reading tools run automatically by default, while actions such as clicking, typing, navigation, and running page code require approval by default. Per-tool grants and Autopilot can change those permissions, including for connected external agents. Review the current settings before granting access; an approval prompt is a control, not a guarantee that an action is safe.

- Prompt injection remains possible. Malicious instructions on a page can influence a model, and approval does not eliminate that risk.
- Different integrations have different reach. Structured tools restrict some credential handling, but arbitrary page JavaScript has broader access. Plugins run with full Node privileges and are not sandboxed; use only plugins and MCP servers you trust.
- Stop is not rollback. It can cancel pending work, but cannot undo an action that has already completed.
- Local does not mean every piece stays local. The repository says optional personal context in
soul.mdis shared only with local models by default. Cloud services and signed-in CLI assistants receive context sent to them.
The creator says Nabsun separates the interface and webpage renderers and revalidates action targets before dispatch, but also states that the project has not had an independent security audit. The project’s current README describes Windows x64 installer and portable builds. For macOS, it advises checking release assets or building on a Mac; Apple silicon is locally tested by the creator, while Intel remains unverified. Linux release packaging is not supported. The creator and README state that Windows builds are unsigned and macOS builds use ad-hoc signing without notarization. Availability can change, so consult the GitHub Releases page and current README before downloading.

If Electron did not download during setup, the creator says npm run setup may be needed. The README also lists npm run typecheck and npm run verify. Linux source setup requires manual engine setup; follow the repository’s current instructions rather than assuming the Windows or macOS steps apply unchanged.

The README identifies Nabsun as a developer preview. It lacks automatic updates, profile sync, and private browsing mode; the creator additionally names missing managed enterprise policy, a central action audit log, and plugin sandboxing. It is a less suitable choice for anyone who needs a mature enterprise-managed browser, dependable automation across arbitrary sites, automatic updates, or a private browsing mode. Before using it with sensitive accounts, assess the approval settings and integrations you plan to enable, and remember that remote assistants receive the context sent to them.
