It launched on November 15, 2024, and gives eligible U.S. viewers scheduled live channels plus rotating on-demand movies and shows. You need a free DIRECTV ID and an internet connection, but not a paid subscription, credit card, satellite dish, contract, or trial cancellation. The trade-offs are advertising, a changing lineup, selective sports coverage, and no DVR.
The official brand is MyFree DIRECTV. It is a free tier within the DIRECTV app, not DIRECTV satellite, DIRECTV STREAM, a paid Genre Pack, or a temporary free trial.
What MyFree DIRECTV actually is
MyFree DIRECTV is DIRECTV’s free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service. FAST platforms present linear channels—programs play on a schedule—alongside an on-demand library. You watch over the internet through the DIRECTV app or a supported browser instead of through a satellite dish.
DIRECTV announced the service on October 10, 2024, for a November 15, 2024 launch, describing a nationwide online, mobile, smart-TV, and streaming-device rollout. See the launch announcement.

MyFree content sits in the wider DIRECTV app ecosystem. Paid DIRECTV customers generally already have access through their existing account; they do not need to create a second MyFree account.
Is MyFree DIRECTV really free?
For the MyFree tier, the price is $0 and DIRECTV says the access does not expire. You still need to create an account and watch advertising. “Free” does not mean ad-free, permanently fixed channel availability, or access to every program in DIRECTV’s paid service.

That makes MyFree different from a paid-package trial, which can have separate expiration, billing, and cancellation terms. Do not enter payment details unless you intentionally choose a paid DIRECTV package.
Channels and programming
DIRECTV’s current marketing is inconsistent: its Android listing advertises 150+ free live channels, while parts of the official web page still say 105+ free TV channels. Older launch-era descriptions used other counts. The difference can reflect a rotating lineup, counting methods, platform differences, or stale copy, so check the live guide before relying on a particular number.

DIRECTV names services and channels such as Tastemade, The Design Network, Alien Nation, Dove TV, Court TV, MovieSphere, SportsGrid, Women’s Sports Network, PokerGO, Racing America, Players TV, and Fight Network. Availability can change; use the official MyFree DIRECTV page and its current channel-lineup link for what is live now.
These are curated FAST feeds and library channels, not 150 full premium-cable networks. A channel may repeat programs on a schedule, and a movie or network available today may leave the lineup later.
Sports: useful extras, not a complete league package
MyFree includes selected sports channels and programming, including sports news, combat sports, racing, poker, and women’s sports. That is different from comprehensive live rights to the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, or major college games. Rights, regional availability, blackouts, and paid-package requirements determine whether a particular event is available. The Android listing also describes broader local and regional restrictions for DIRECTV features.
Movies and shows
The on-demand catalog rotates and includes comedy, action, and drama movies and television shows. DIRECTV highlights MovieSphere, Pure Flix, El Rey Rebel, Ebony TV, and Movie Favorites by Lifetime. Treat any title list as temporary rather than a permanent catalog promise.

How to sign up and start watching
- Open https://www.directv.com/myfree-directv/.
- Select the option to start watching or sign up.
- Enter a valid email address, first and last name, and a password.
- Enter the one-time PIN if DIRECTV sends a verification message.
- Open the DIRECTV app, or return to the website, and sign in.
- Choose the free MyFree experience and open the guide or a program.
Some compatible television apps offer QR-code registration from the on-screen sign-in page. A successful registration should take you to the guide or content interface without asking for payment information.
If registration or playback fails
- Install the newest version of the DIRECTV app.
- Check your email and spam folder for the one-time PIN.
- If you have an active paid account, sign in with that DIRECTV ID instead of creating another one.
- If an old DIRECTV ID causes an account conflict, try the official website or contact DIRECTV support rather than repeatedly opening accounts.
- Clear the app or browser cache, then try another supported device or browser.
- After registration, allow up to three minutes for access to appear on another device, as DIRECTV documents.
Use the official app and directv.com; search results can include authorized dealers and paid-package pages that obscure the free option.
Where you can watch
DIRECTV lists supported web browsers, phones, tablets, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, smart TVs, and other compatible streaming devices. Compatibility changes, so consult DIRECTV’s current device documentation rather than assuming every model works.

What the free tier cannot do
- No cloud DVR: DIRECTV support reserves recording for paid subscribers.
- No permanent channel guarantee: FAST feeds and on-demand titles rotate.
- No complete pay-TV lineup: major premium networks are not included simply because the app has many free channels.
- No guarantee of every major game: sports access is selective and subject to rights and blackouts.
- No ad-free viewing: advertising funds the service.
You can create profiles in the app using Main Menu → Switch profile beside the avatar → + New Profile. Profiles should not be assumed to provide every parental-control or household-management feature available on paid services.

Current paid customers
MyFree channels are generally included with an existing DIRECTV login. Seeing no separate “MyFree” registration button can be normal.
Former customers
Try your previous DIRECTV ID first. Depending on the account state, you may see Explore new packages or Restart former service. If the normal start-watching flow is missing, register through the official MyFree page.
New customers
You can use MyFree without buying anything. If you later choose a paid package, DIRECTV says package information may take up to 30 minutes to appear in the app or on a Gemini device after an upgrade.

The best choice depends on how you watch rather than on a single channel-count claim.

Who should use MyFree DIRECTV?
It is a good fit for cord-cutters who want casual live channel surfing, former DIRECTV customers who know the interface, and households seeking another no-card FAST option. It is especially low-risk to try because the free tier does not require a paid conversion.
Choose another solution—or a paid DIRECTV package—if you need DVR recording, a specific premium series, ad-free playback, a dependable major-league sports schedule, or guaranteed access to one channel over time.
Bottom line
MyFree DIRECTV is a legitimate, standalone free streaming tier rather than a disguised trial. Create a free DIRECTV ID, use a supported internet-connected device, and expect ads and a rotating selection of scheduled channels and on-demand titles. Its strongest use is supplementary free live TV; it is not a replacement for a full satellite, cable, or paid streaming package when DVR, premium networks, or comprehensive sports are essential.
