The MSI Z590-A PRO is a good fit for a compatible LGA1200 build if you want DDR4, three M.2 slots, six SATA ports, 2.5Gbps wired networking and extensive USB connectivity. Its biggest caveat is that key features depend on the processor: the top M.2 slot works only with an 11th Gen Intel CPU, and the primary graphics slot reaches PCIe 4.0 only with an 11th Gen CPU.
Is the MSI Z590-A PRO a good motherboard?
It is a capable option for a system built around a supported 10th or 11th Gen Intel processor. MSI specifies an ATX board with an LGA1200 socket, four DDR4 memory slots, three M.2 slots, six SATA ports, an Intel 2.5Gbps LAN controller, and multiple USB 3.2 connections, including a rear USB Type-C port rated for 20Gbps. These are product specifications, not independent performance or reliability results.

Whether it is a good buy today depends on the board’s current price, condition, warranty and the cost of other parts for a compatible platform. The available official documentation does not establish comparative benchmarks, measured thermals, failure rates or current resale and retail pricing, so it cannot support a claim that this is the best-value board.

Confirm the exact CPU model
The board uses Intel’s LGA1200 socket and supports specified 10th and 11th Gen Intel Core, Pentium Gold and Celeron processors. Check your exact CPU model against compatibility information rather than relying on the generation or family name alone. MSI’s specification page and Z590 PRO WIFI / Z590-A PRO user guide describe the platform; the guide says, “Please go to intel.com for compatibility information”.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
DDR4 capacity and speed
MSI lists four DDR4 DIMM slots and support for up to 128GB. Its stated JEDEC memory support is up to 2933MHz with 10th Gen CPUs and up to 3200MHz with 11th Gen CPUs, under the listed configurations. MSI also advertises speeds up to DDR4-5333 through overclocking, but that is a maximum specification, not a guaranteed speed for every processor, memory kit or DIMM arrangement. Check the CPU-specific guidance and MSI’s memory compatibility information when choosing a kit.
How do the M.2 slots and SATA ports work?
The three M.2 slots are not identical. M.2_1 is connected to the CPU and supports PCIe 4.0 x4, but MSI specifies that it is available only with an 11th Gen Intel CPU. With a 10th Gen CPU, plan around the two chipset-connected slots instead.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- M.2_1: CPU-connected PCIe 4.0 x4; requires an 11th Gen Intel CPU.
- M.2_2 and M.2_3: Z590 chipset-connected; support up to PCIe 3.0 x4 or SATA, according to MSI.
Drive installation can affect other storage connections. MSI’s manual notes that using certain SATA M.2 drives or installing an SSD in M.2_3 disables specified SATA ports. Check the manual’s storage configuration notes before connecting multiple SATA drives; do not assume all three M.2 slots and all six SATA ports remain available in every configuration.

PCIe expansion
The primary CPU-connected x16 slot supports up to PCIe 4.0 with an 11th Gen CPU and PCIe 3.0 with a 10th Gen CPU. The other x16-length slot is chipset-connected and operates at up to PCIe 3.0 x4; two additional slots are PCIe 3.0 x1. An x16-length connector is not necessarily wired for x16 bandwidth, so consider the slot’s connection and lane width when planning add-in cards.

Network, USB, audio and display
MSI specifies an Intel I225-V 2.5Gbps wired LAN controller, six SATA 6Gb/s ports and 7.1-channel audio. Rear I/O includes a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C port, with further USB 3.2 and USB 2.0 connections listed in the specifications. The rear-I/O diagram also shows a Flash BIOS button.
The board has HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.4 outputs, listed for up to 4K at 60Hz, but they work only when the installed processor has integrated graphics. If your CPU lacks integrated graphics, the motherboard’s display connectors will not provide an image; use a discrete graphics card for video output.

Who should consider the Z590-A PRO?
- Consider it if you already have, or are planning to use, a compatible LGA1200 CPU and want to reuse or buy DDR4 memory.
- It may suit a storage-heavy build if you need multiple M.2 and SATA connections and are willing to account for the documented slot-sharing rules.
- Check carefully first if you need the top M.2 slot or PCIe 4.0 for the primary x16 slot: both depend on using an 11th Gen Intel CPU.
- Look elsewhere or verify the platform cost if you are buying a new CPU and memory as well. The board is tied to LGA1200 and DDR4, so compare the total cost and features of compatible options before purchasing.
What to verify before buying or installing
- Confirm the exact processor model is supported; MSI’s manual directs users to Intel for compatibility information.
- Match the CPU generation to the features you need, especially M.2_1 and PCIe 4.0 on the primary x16 slot.
- Choose a compatible DDR4 kit and check supported speed guidance for your CPU and DIMM population; treat overclocked speeds as conditional.
- Map M.2 and SATA devices against the manual’s sharing notes to avoid losing a SATA connection unexpectedly.
- Check whether the CPU has integrated graphics if you intend to use the motherboard’s HDMI or DisplayPort output.
- Compare the board’s current price, condition and warranty with the cost of other suitable platform options.
