The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ (CG3EM) pairs strong independent gaming results with a reported US launch price of $1,799.99. That makes it a high-performance Windows handheld for buyers who value horsepower above cost—not an easy recommendation on price alone. Its benchmark advantage is real in some tested games, but results vary by title and settings, and battery life changes substantially with power mode.
Which MSI Claw 8 is this review about?
This is the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ with model identifier CG3EM, announced in 2026 around Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme platform. It is distinct from the earlier MSI Claw 8 AI+. The model and regional configuration matter: MSI says specifications can vary, so verify the exact SKU offered where you plan to buy. MSI’s product specifications identify Windows 11 Home and the following headline features:

- 8-inch, 1920 × 1200 touchscreen with 120 Hz refresh and variable refresh rate (VRR)
- 80 Wh battery
- Hall-effect sticks and triggers
- Two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a microSD slot
- MSI Center M with Xbox Mode, plus MSI AI Engine
MSI lists typical display brightness of 500 nits and typical 100% sRGB coverage. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. MSI’s Computex 2026 announcement also highlights XeSS 3 and Multi-Frame Generation; their presence does not mean every game supports them or that generated frames have the same latency and image characteristics as natively rendered frames.
The product page names a Claw Travel Case III and an 8-inch tempered-glass screen protector among launch-pack contents. That listing alone does not establish that either accessory is sold separately, included with every regional SKU, or currently available. Check the bundle details for the specific unit.

How fast is the Claw 8 EX AI+ in games?
Independent reviews show that the CG3EM can deliver high frame rates for a handheld, but the numbers are tied to particular games, settings, and test setups. They are not a promise of what every owner will see.
PC Gamer’s Cyberpunk 2077 results
In PC Gamer’s review benchmarks, the CG3EM averaged 51 frames per second (fps), with 33 fps 1% lows, in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p Medium. In the same table, the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X recorded 41 average fps and 34 fps 1% lows.

- COMPATIBILITY: Protective silicone cover case for MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ handheld gaming console (Released in 2026), does not fit for MSI Claw 8 version.
- Flexible Shockproof TPU Protection: Made of high-quality soft flexible TPU material, this protective sleeve absorbs impact effectively against minor drops, bumps, daily scratches, fingerprints and dust. It safeguards your gaming handheld while maintaining the original lightweight feel, easy to install and remove without leaving marks on the device.
- Ergonomic Anti-Slip Grip Design: Textured anti-slip side handles improve holding stability, reduce hand fatigue during extended gameplay. Raised edge around the screen prevents direct contact with flat surfaces, avoiding abrasion to the touch display when placed upside down.
- Built-in Foldable Kickstand: Integrated adjustable kickstand supports horizontal hands-free viewing. Great for desktop gaming, video watching and live streaming, freeing your hands for a more comfortable entertainment experience.
- Heat Dissipation Reserved & Daily Portable: Rear hollow cooling holes align with the original ventilation area to guarantee smooth airflow and prevent overheating. Slim lightweight design fits easily into backpacks and travel bags, ideal for home use, business trips and outdoor gaming
With upscaling enabled at 1080p Medium, PC Gamer recorded 73 average fps and 50 fps 1% lows on the Claw, versus 53 average fps and 44 fps 1% lows on the Ally X. These upscaled results are not native-rendering figures. Upscaling can improve apparent performance, but image quality depends on the game and settings; frame generation, where used, also changes the responsiveness trade-off.
PC Gamer’s comparisons also put the Claw ahead of the Ally X in its F1 24 and Metro Exodus Enhanced tests, but those results do not establish a universal lead across games. For a purchase decision, compare the titles you play at matched resolution and settings rather than relying on one headline result.

TechRadar’s separate test results
TechRadar’s review reports a 3DMark Time Spy score of 6,534. In its game tests, it measured Cyberpunk 2077 at 43 fps at 1080p Ultra and 75 fps at 1080p Low, plus Dirt 5 at 48.3 fps at 1200p Ultra and 95.7 fps at 1200p Low. These are TechRadar’s results; they should not be combined with PC Gamer’s figures as if both outlets used the same test setup.
What is battery life like?
There is no single runtime figure that describes every game or power mode. Published tests differ, so treat each result as evidence for its stated workload rather than a general guarantee.

| Test | Reported result | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| PCMark 10 gaming, default mode | 153 minutes | PC Gamer’s test result for the CG3EM |
| PCMark 10 gaming, Endurance mode | 308 minutes | PC Gamer’s result in a lower-power mode |
| PCMark 10 gaming battery test | 1 hour 40 minutes | TechRadar’s result; its published figure differs from PC Gamer’s |
| Clair Obscur, medium settings, Endurance Mode | More than three hours | Engadget reviewer Sam Rutherford’s reported play session, not a standardized battery test |
The first two figures are from PC Gamer; the third is from TechRadar. Engadget’s Sam Rutherford’s review describes the game, settings, and Endurance Mode for its play-session observation. Differences between reviewers’ battery-test results can reflect settings, firmware, test procedure, or configuration. Expect runtime to depend on the game and power mode.
Is the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ worth its price?
At its reported launch pricing, the central trade-off is straightforward: strong performance in several independent gaming tests, in exchange for a very high outlay. TechRadar reported review-time prices of $1,799.99 in the US, £1,399.99 in the UK, and AU$2,849 in Australia, alongside a June 23, 2026 launch date. These are dated launch-era figures, not verified current offers; check local pricing and stock before deciding.

Engadget’s reviewer recognized the performance gains while questioning the cost: “$1,800 for a handheld gaming PC is a ton of money, even if it comes with massive gains in horsepower.” Engadget rated the device 8.2/10, its publication’s assessment rather than a universal value score.
Before buying, weigh the parts of the experience that benchmarks cannot settle for you:
- Price where you live: use the current price for the exact regional model, not an old review figure.
- Your games and settings: compare results for the titles you play, including whether figures use upscaling or frame generation.
- Time away from a charger: decide whether your typical games and preferred power mode suit the runtime you need.
- Size, weight, and comfort: consider how an 8-inch handheld feels in your hands and bag; strong frame rates do not answer that question.
- Screen and controls: the 120 Hz VRR display and Hall-effect controls are listed features, but preferences about screen size and ergonomics are personal.
- Windows handheld experience: software preference and setup are not resolved by benchmark scores.
PC Gamer’s comparisons include the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X and Lenovo Legion Go S. The earlier MSI Claw 8 AI+ is another distinct option. Compare like-for-like game settings and local prices rather than assuming that a newer or faster result automatically makes the CG3EM the best value.
